Would you prefer a pentuim 4 or an amd processor? Which has better performance? Which is better for gaming? wich is faster? compare like the barton 3000+ and a pentuim 4 2.8 thanks... :D

Which has better performance it depends on the application. AMD XP 3000+ will run some things faster than a Pentium 4 2.8. And visa versa

As for gaming same deal it depends on the game.

Realistcally the performance differences are so small you won't likely notice. Buy which ever one you like the most.

Get an AMD XP 2500+ (one with the right stepping) and OC it to 2.2GHz. That way you get lots of performace for less money.

As for the pentium - erm alien territory.

But seriously, if you are going to buy an AMD XP 3000+ you may as well throw money at AMD - or Intel for that matter since pentiums are rather highly priced. That's the secret of OCing - find out which chips OC best and then CRANK EM TO THE MAX and have 3 times as much fun. Then you can buy lots of games with the extra cash

If money is not an issue I would take the P4 2.8 overclock it to 3.5 with the new 800 bus motherboards and blow the doors off anything AMD has. If I was on a budget however I would stick to AMD.

a barton 2500+ oced to say 2.3-2.4 will run with just about anything intel.....ESPECIALLY! if you get it to run in dual channel and have some uber nice ram (buffolo 3700 with winbond at newegg.com) and pump it to say 230(460) fsb this will seriously knock your socks off performance wise.....and will save you TONS!!!!!!!! of money which you can put into a better graphics card........but if you have more dollars then cents you could go for intel and get that extra "theoretical" performance on some abstract benchmark........save your money.....buy amd then wait for the next big thang~ to blow your savings on.....ie AMD64 :D...............seriously for now I gauruntee you will be happy with a barton running at 2.3 with a 230(460) frontside bus and a radeon 9800np:D

I would prefer AMD. Loads of performance for almost no money. And if you overclock that barton, it would blow the P4 away! However, the p4 will still beat the AMD 'cause of the high FSB
