Well I'm up a tree here and need some advice if you all have any to offer. I had to RMA my Powercolor 9700 (suckass card) because the memory crapped out and now newegg doesn't have anymore to send me. This was in a message they sent me.

"The above items are not longer avaliable.

Therefore, we have credited you the full amounts of the items that is not
in stock. You can use this refund to purchase any replacement as needed.
Please allow 3-5 working days for any credit to appear."

Nice grammer huh? Anyway I'm not sure if this means they're giving me store credit or if they refunding me. I think it means they're giving me store credit. Anything they can do to keep my money right? If it's store credit I have no clue how they will keep this straight when it comes to me ordering again. But, what it comes down to is this.... I still need a new card here. I don't want to downgrade from what I had so I guess newegg will be getting a few more dollars out of me. I'm looking at either that Asus V9900 (FX 5800) or Radeon 9800np. I need to know which one you think will stay cooler and run faster. AA and AF aren't to big of deals to me. I don't like the performance hit they give me. So anyway what do you have to say?

go for the radeon 9800 np, and they will either credit the money back or just give you store credit. I don't know which because when that happened to me they gave my money back but I bought something for 50 dollars instead of in the 200.

Well the reason I'm looking at the 5800 is because no doubt it's fast, but also I've never had problems with any of my nVidia based cards, but yes nVidia does have me a little disgusted with them right now. That 9700 was a serious pain to get working (ran too hot) and once I did get it working it still crapped out.

edit: yeah I hope they just give me my money back.. not give me store credit.. to much trouble to mess with.

powercool doesn't make good ati cards. Never get video cards from them again. but my reason on going with the 9800np is because its a lot fast and better iq then the 5800. Also ati drivers are just find now. I haven't had any problems with them at all.

edit: also they fixed the shim problem with the 9800 cards. The heatsink is more on the cord then it was on the 9700 so it won't be hotter

I'd consider the 9800np over the 5800 if I was in your shoes.

I was looking at the Sapphire 9800 np. Once newegg sorts this all out in 3-5 convient business days *sarcasm* maybe I'll try the sapphire.

alright, good luck with the card. If it doesn't work out you can trade for my 9700 np ;)

sapphire is good. The 5800 is a buggy joke.. its loud... big and ugly. I think you will be happeir with a 9800np or 9700np. And yeah the Powercolor cards are not always on par with ATI and Sapphire so I would avoid them like the plague.

i would go for the 9800np and they dont give store credit they just refund it to your account.

I had to RMA a bad refurb mobo to New Egg a while back. Because it was a refurb, they had no replacement available. I got the same reply as you did & New Egg just credited my credit card acct. with the refund. They also credited my acct a lot quicker than 3-5 days. I think it was either the next day or within 2 days. In my experience New Egg is VERY good with customer service.

I'd go with the 9800 as well. While I don't have the hang ups that other people around here have about the 5800, I still don't see it as being a worthwhile investment.

9700 Pro is better than 5800u and 9800np is about the same or a little better than 97p.
