View Full Version : Control fan speed?

(Providing a url where this question is answered will suffice!)

I have a CPU fan and another connected to fan headers on my KT7 -- being 3-wire fans, they provide RPM info. When the RPMs go up, the temp goes down. I would prefer to keep the RPMs up there, so the temp stays down there, but the KT7 has other ideas.

Is there any way for me to mandate that my mobo's fans run at peak all of the time, or adjust whatever criteria they are looking at to change speed?

Thanks.

Try connecting your CPU fan to any 4pin connector. Those 3pin connectors on mobos don't provide full power neccessary for certain fans. If you connect the fan to the 4pin connector, then you'll lose the fan RPM monitoring previleges but you'll know that the fan is running at it's full speed.

The up/down in the fan RPM's are normal, but shouldn't vary more that a couple hundred at 5 sec intervals. The headers on the KT7 are more than capable of handling most fans, hell it will run the Delta!! Everyone thinks that the fans run full speed on the 4-pin connectors. That may be so on some boards, but how can they tell without monitoring. Anyway, this whole dragged out thing is just to say that on that board it won't make a difference, unless you have a bad board or voltage controller that is running your headers, but very unlikly. If your just +/- 500 rpm i wouldn't worry.
