First question is. Has anyone had problems fitting this thing on a s478 P4 board? I know the P4's have a mount of some kind, I'm not sure whether this would fit in there (or does it use the mount?).
Secondly, the fan for this thing. I know it supports up to a 92mm fan and that's what I'd get. Although I've been wondering, is there any difference at all between a "case fan" and a "CPU cooler fan"? I would think not since a fan is a fan is a fan but you can never be too sure so I'm asking.
I'd also like your comments on which fan is the best for this particular cooler. I'm planning on a 2.4C. Thanks.

As far as fit it really depends on which motherboard. You can check their website for the list of compatible motherboards. I have one on an Asus P4PE and it fits with no problem. There are two mounting methods. One uses the stock mounting on a s478, the other method uses the four holes that many (not all) motherboards have that mount the frame for the stock HSF. Personally I bolted it down using the four holes. If you don't move your case around a lot the stock mounting is probably ok.
As far as the fan that really depends how much noise you can tolerate. The 92 x 38 Tornado will provide the most airflow (119 CFM), but at the price of a very loud 55db. I do not believe there is a difference between a "case" fan and a "CPU" fan. A lot of people are using the tt Smart fan which moves less air but is quiet from what I have read. I have no persoanl experience with it. Hope this helps.

I have one on my P4C800 with a Panaflo 92mm 57cfm fan and it is outstanding. It is heavy but comes with good hardware for mounting. I would check the web site to see if they show the board that you are planning on buying.
edit: The 92mm will give you more air at lower db, also.

no. easy install on my abit ic7. they suggest 2 different methods for putting on the heatsink. i've tried both ways on 2 different boards, the ic7 and the aopen max. both are easy, but the method where you use the original bracket shipped with the mobo is faster. no difference in temps that i could see, which means that either way will make good contact between cpu and heatsink. GL!

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll get the Zalman 92mm fan. It has a maximum noise level of 36 dB and a low-rpm noise level of 20 dB. I think that'd be perfect. I'm also getting an Abit IS7. I don't think there should be a mounting problem.
THE SLK 900U WILL FIT ON ANY P4 MOTHERBOARD....
