View Full Version : Duron 750 @ 950, NOT posting, it's not rocket science!!!!!
Ok all, I'll try and keep it simple. 750 Duron (Green chip).. Right now overclocked to 900Mhz. Pushing the Multipliers to 9 only. Not pushing the FSB at all. Temps very ok, bottom out around 97 F or so. My voltage is set to 1.68v (I think this is the problem).
I went into the BIOS, upped the Multlpliers just a lil bit ago to 9.5... left everything else where it is. saved and rebooted... It would post the video card, you know "TNT2 AGP" at the top, then black screen, video goes, then nothing, fans spinning, seems ok, just NO post!
Clear the CMOS jumpers
Try to up the FSB instead of the Multi. Put the FSB to 106x with Multi back to 9. SAME THING! ARGHHH!!!!
Clear CMOS jumpers
go back to 900 on the multipliers.
Is it the voltage!?!? Do I need to kick it up to 1.75v!? Anyone help!
On a K7T Pro 2-A Mobo, Duron 750, Super Orb Cooling. Any assistance would GREATLY appreciated, I wanna get to 950 so bad I can taste it!
Thanks. :)
i would bump the volts if i were you.. a multiplier of 9 might be the limit of your chip
I believe you're right, it is probably the voltage, I need to up it. Anyone out there with a similiar incident like mine? I wanna make sure to learn from others before I go ahead and up that voltage, as far as the chips limit, I can't buy that, you may be right, but we have to many on here pushing the durons well over a 200Mhz overclock, I hope it isn't the chips limit! Thanks for the reply k!
Anyone else can tell me any other hints I'd love to hear'm!

I went through a similar situation.
I too am fated with an infamous green monster.
This was my first OC attempt and I tried to follow all of the advice and info found on the board. I started by dropping the multiplier and raising the fsb. Then I jacked up the multiplier ( i was shooting for 1200 with my 1ghz tbird. I hit a point somewhere around 1260 or so where no post at all. I then cranked up the voltage .025 at a tme (abit kt7a-r) until it posted. I thought I was home free till I started running prime95 torture test and got errors after about 5 mins so.... back to drawing board (or bios in this case)
another tweak of the core voltage and voila' success.
Currently Im at 1190 (140x8.5) still at cas 2. Stable as a rock -ran prime 95 for about 12hrs.. no probs.
I may drop back down to cas 3 and see what i can get since I am at max Volts 1.85 (no soldering in my future).
But I was surprised how effective raising the volts even a little bit will cure your sysytem's indigestion!
I also have a Duron 750 and right now am running at 900. I can't get mine up to a mult. of 9.5, it just wont do it, sounds like the same thing. You might be at your limit but I am at a higher voltage so I would suggest you raise that up some.
For those of you who posted a reply, thanks a bunch! Heres what happened...
I said I wanted to hear other opinions and see what others experiences were with voltage before I decided to take that route.
Looks like that is what I had to do. I popped the volts from 1.68v to 1.78v, this BIOS will only allow you to go in .10 increments. Ran at 1.78v without any overclocking for a while, seemed stable. Went ahead and kicked up the FSB since I hadn't touched it yet. I was at 100FSB @ 9.0Mult I am now running at 103FSB @ 9.0Mult. I do believe I can kick the multipliers just as easy as I can up the FSB but I figure right now, safety is the best way to go. Needless to say i'm now running at 927Mhz, running a little hotter than I'd like 35C but that is just me, I wanna keep below 100F if possible.
The ultimate goal here is to make it to 950Mhz. I was thinking 1Ghz but not now.
Thanks again to all those who pushed me to push that voltage, that did it for me, it posted! WOOHOO!
Thanks guys, I'll post here once I get to 950 and tell ya how things are.
Go for that gig! I have a Duron 700@978MHz and that's with 1.85V. It's running around 50 C at full load. All this is with standard cooling!
So go ahead, don't be scarred, just keep a close eye on the temps. Best under 50C and NOT over 60C
Pump that voltage, and get the gig! :)

What are you pushing as far as FSB and Multipliers? What are your numbers, are you o/c the FSB more than the Multipliers or vice versa?
Thats a killer o/c, I figured I couldn't go above a 200 O/C and stay stable. 50 C, I'm barely touching 35 C, I gots lots of room to play now! Thanks man!!!
