Well, low and behold I have found my problem at last! After buying a new video card, new RAM, and disabling the Ultra DMA Promise thingy on my mobo, I FINALLY disabled my soundcard. Low and behold, I'm up and running....NOW....how do I get my soundcard back? It's a Diamond, MX300. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Oh, by the way, my duron 600 is stable at 800mhz..but with now sound!!! whooofreakinghoooo!!!!

Try switching the sound card to different slots, til you find one that doesn't cause conflicts.

Go buy yourself a Cheap sound blaser card and make sure your (I am assumond your current card is on board?) current card is disabled. If you have room on your mobo, I gurantee that you will not be able to tell the difference between that and an expensive card unless you are using 5.1 channels.

I have found the MX300 to be a major PITA with certain motherboards.

The easy way out is to get another sound card. The hard way is to carefully select where your components are placed on the motherboard.

Turn, plug n play, off in bios. Remove all PCI cards. Boot up the computer with just an AGP card. Load windows. Power down. Now place the MX300 in a slot that does not share an IRQ. Load windows. If you get sound you're on the right track. Now add PCI cards one at a time. If you get an IRQ conflict try a different card. Preferably one that doesn't mind sharing an IRQ.

If you're patient you'll find the right combination.
