will any fan work with a fan controller such as a Vantec Nexus or do you need variable speed fans? Does reducing the power to a regular fan damage it over time if it is not designed as a variable speed fan?

Thanks,
Gage

any fan will work with a fan controller, provided you have the proper cables (3 pin to 4 pin converters or vice versa). to my knowledge, reducing the voltage to the fan does no significant damage.

I agree. Also if you buy the pctoy system maxx fan controller it will come with 2 3-4 pin adapters, and 2 3pin extentions.
