ok, i recently installed a slk-900 and a 92mm tornado for cooling. this from an ax-7 and 80mm tornado. this is supposed to be an upgrade to get a better performance and a higher clock, on the contrary, i cannot do anything but 12 x 153 = 1.836 which is horrible, i tried moving my voltage up to 1.8v and i had to clear cmos because i couldn't even get into bios. why is this? I used to run what was on my sig and was perfectly stable before i put in the new hs and fan.

I haven't changed any other settings so i'm running stock right now? any suggestions?

What are your temps? You must have the HS installed incorrectly.

What kind of thermal paste did you use and how much? Too much or too little could have this effect. Likewise, if it's on backwards with the notch on the wrong side could do it too if it's not making good contact.

my temps right now are 109F I don't know about the thermal paste i used the stuff that came with my heatsink, although i do have some other stuff lying around, i don't want to go out and buy artic silver because i still have some lying around. whats this about notches though? how do you tell if its backwards?

Make sure that the indent is above where it says "Socket 462" on the socket; its hard to miss. As long as you apply the thermal compound in a neat, thin layer, there shouldn't be any problems, regardless of its brand.

Did you clean the old paste off? If not, mixing older and newer thermal paste could be the problem too.

i cleaned off all the previous thermal compound, and i applied a thin layer, maybe too thin, i'll reapply and see if that helps any. I never saw anything about a notch or a socket but i'll recheck. thnx and i'll keep see if that works
