I am new to overclocking and am in need of answers and advice.I have a fic pa-2013 mobo with a k6-2 500 and 64mb of pc-100. do i have much o/cing potential? i heard k6-2+ is a better o/cer. how do i tell which one i have? what memory would you recommend? what thermal solution(besides peltiers... they look a little too hardcore for me) would you recommend?

I had a K62 500 on a Epox MVP3G2 until about a week and a half ago... I'm a Duron kinda guy now.....
I used one of those bigger Intel OEM fans that come with Coppermine's.... it was a big heatsink but the fan left a little to be desired. I got it cheap from a dealer who decided his P3 systems he sold needed something bigger. One of those with a good 60 MM fan (25-30 cfm) would work real well, otherwise almost any good cooler for Socket A/socket 370 will work (FOP, Alpha PAL, Taisol, etc) I would recommend trying to get 525 MHz first (95 FSB x 5.5 multiplier) you should be able to get that at around a 2.4 or 2.5 volt core voltage. I went as high as 560 (112x5) with mine but my burner didn't like 122 MHz FSB so I settled at 550, 100x5.5. I was running 2.8 volts vcore. My temps were idling around 38-40 C and max around 48 C. get motherboard monitor and stress the CPU after an overclock to see what your temps are. I wouldn't recommend clocking it so high that your max temps are any higher than 50 C. Overall, with a super good cooler, you might see 600 MHz out of this chip. It's an outdated chip that wasn't know for overclockability, so don't expect the world from it.

I have a K6 2-500 running @ 560 right now.
Jetway J-530BF board, 128 ram, 5.0 mult. 2.56 CV, 112 FSB. I like it supports the 112 fsb. I tried to run 5.5 mult to get 612 put it would not go. Temp 34-40 *C with HSF, and closed case, 1-120 mm fan in and 1 out. Have a Peltier on order though to keep the temp down. Has been ok for 2 days so far.

Umm...
I kinda understand this stuff now but before I do anything stupid I need to know some things.
If you overclock to higher speeds, is more core voltage required? Say right now my 500 Mhz k6-2 is set at 2.2 V. When I o/c to 550 or something i would need 2.3 or 2.4 V right?
Would a good heatsink/fan, thermal compound, and a couple of case fans be adequate to o/c my system? gimme some name brands and specs get hsf and case fans by.
To get o/c more i'll need a higher fsb, right? so i need faster memory? what would you all recommend and how much?
peace out and thx.
