I have a viewsonic E90, and it says its max resolution is 1600 by 1200, but when I put it to that, its bigger than the 19 inch screen, and I have to kinda work my way around the screen, how do I make it so the whole screen is actually in the screen. What I mean is, when in 1600 by 1200, and i move my mouse to the bottom of the screen, on the desktop, it scrolls down. When I mvoe to the side, it scrolls to the side. How do I stop this?

You probably need the correct driver file for that monitor so that windows knows what it can do. http://www.viewsonic.com/support/drivers.htm

I tried both the signed and unsigned versions of the xp drivers, and the signed one says monitor not found, so I tried the unsigned version, and then it seems like its working, then it gives me a list of instructions, and when I do them, it says "drivers already updated" or somethigh to that effect. What now?

What video card are you using?

I seem to remember some cards offering "virtual" desktop resolutions which were higher than the card could produce. This sounds like what you might be experiencing.

Also, does Win XP properly detect your monitor? When you open the Display Properties window and go to the Settings tab, does it list your display as: "Viewsonic E90 on"...then your video card?

If it does not show the E90 there, you might try removing and reseating both ends of the monitor cable (with the PC & monitor off) also try using a different cable and avoid using a KVM switchbox.

It just shows it as plug and play monitor, not Viewsonic E90. My video card is the 9600 pro.

Theirs also a deault monitor on radeon 9600 pro-secondary, should I try that?

It looks like your monitor is not being identified properly. Are you using the VGA port on the 9600 or the DVI with an adapter?

What does windows show in the device manager under monitor?

As a "plug and play" monitor windows probably assumes that it is only capable of 1024x768.

It still says plug and play or default monitor under device manager, should I try default? And whatrs a VGA or DVI?

You will need to try to force windows to use the monitor driver you downloaded...

Go to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager

Expand Monitor and Right Click the Plug and Play entry and select Update Driver

Select 'Install from list or specific location' and next

Select 'Search for the best...', Uncheck 'Search Romovable' and check ' Include this location...' and click browse.

Locate the directory to which you expanded the Viewsonic Drivers

You should then be able to force windows to use the E90 driver.

****

If this does not work you can try to use one of the "standard monitor types" and select "Super VGA 1600x1200"

download powerstrip - that will allow you to change the maximum resolution.

Here are some other things to try...

1. Make sure you have the most recent XP drivers (catalyst 3.5) for your video card.

2. Go into display properties > Settings > Advanced; then select Displays, Click on monitor, uncheck "Use DDC information" then set max resolution to 1792x1344 (max for the E90).

3. Try another monitor cable.
