View Full Version : Temps on 1GHZ TB???

I just got a 1GHZ TB. The temp keeps jumping all over the place, if I turn on the hardware monitor the temp will go from about 31'C to 40'C. If I shut it back off and then turn it back on right away i get like 34'C. I am wondering two things: 1.what temps should I be looking for? And what would cause the readings to be all over like that? Is it the sensors on the mobo? The heatsink is hot to the touch and it hasn't locked up in the three days I have had it( on for about 12 hours at a shot) and it never goes above 46'C. Please let me know if i'm ok or if i'm killing the proc. (oh yeah, it's not oc'd yet, wanna make sure the temps are good first. :-) ) thanks

That's getting warm..especially if you're not overclocked yet. What heat sink do you have and what kind of case cooling do you have?

I have a coolermaster hsf, i dont know the cfm, but it's a 6000 rpm fan. As far as case cooling goes, I have two case fans pulling air in the front, then two more pushing out the back. I also have a 7000 rpm fan on the video card. I am using thermal grease not one of those silly transfer pads. I have been keeping an eye on it and in bios it seems to have stabilized around 91'F to 96'F when I am just messing around. The only time it seems to get really warm is when I am running 3D mark or Quake 3. I don't know if it matters but it is a blue core, I heard they are the better ones to get. Thanks. :-)

I have a 1GHz TBird at 1.2GHz (12x100).

When it's really really idle (i.e. when nothing's running and all of the Win98 power saver things have kicked in) it gets down to 22 degrees C case temp and 27 degrees C.

When it's stressed to the max, case gets up to 25, CPU to 43.

what are you using to cool? I used to have a classic that ran that cool with a normal hsf, are you using any one particular brand, please let me know, My goal is to run mine at 1.2 as well. Also, what voltage are you runing to get that high? Thanks :-)

When I first got my 1G TBird, I tried out a Coolermaster hsf, and it just wasn't up to the job. Real excessive heat problem. I used a GlobalWin FOP 38 until I got my watercooled steup going yesterday. I'd dump the Coolermaster as quick as possible.

3DCool Tornado 1000 case (plus a "harddrive" fan at the top of the case, with the fans reversed to exhaust rather than blow in); ThermalTake Volcano II heatsink/fan (though truth be told it gave me no improvement over the OEM fan that came with the TBird -- if I hadn't already bought two heatsink/fans for this thing already (and wasn't perfectly happy with the cooling I'm getting) I'd go for the noisier GlobalWin FOP 38...).

Thanks guys, I'll give the global a try and see what happens. what temps should i be looking for when I get it up and running? somewhere in the area of 25'C to 35'C? Thanks :-)

Hi, i'v got a T-Bird 1000@1200 9x133 and I use a PAL 6035 with a GW fan at 38cfm,I used Artic Silver(just a thin coat) and my idel temp is 24C and my full load is 34-36C(depending on room temp which is around 74f),One thing to make sure on is plenty of case cooling,I dropped 10C on full load when I got my case cool properly.Good luck

What mobo do you have? I was thinking of running 1200 the same way you are (12X133). I have the KT133 chipset, but i've read it isn't stable beyond like 110 or so. Thanks :-)

You'll need a KT133A board to do 133MHz :)

I just wanted to tahnk everyone who replied! I changed the hsf and dropped the temp to 26'C Idle and 42'C after running 3Dmark2k for 8 hours and running demo001 on Quake3 for 4 more hours. I am now ready to unlock and overclock the **** out of this thing!!! Thaks everyone!! :-)
