Hi guru's!

I would like to know a few things. I'm seeing all these people getting 300+/500+ speeds on ti4200's. Mine (BFG Assylum) will BARELY eek out 280/450. Stock cooling, but it's not really hot.

1. Do you have to up the AGP voltage in your BIOS to get a better o/c?

2. In RivaTuner, is it better to o/c in the "high level" or "low level" overclocking areas? (It wont let me do both) And what is the difference in the two?

3. What good does flashing the card bios do if I can just set it manually in RivaTuner?

4. Does everbody else's card boot to Windows, then wait a couple seconds while the screen flashes and then goes to your settings (like brightness, color, etc)?

If you have any other tips or suggestions for me, please post them or add a link.

Thanks for your help.

Shane

1. No. AGP voltage does nothing to help a card o/c.

2. "High level" or driver level is a better pick because you can adjust in 1MHz increments. Low level bypasses the drivers and jump in frequency.

3. Flashing the card will permanently set the speeds on the card.

4. Yes.

1. I've never increased agp voltage in order to get a higher o/c.

2. I use high level.

3. Dunno

4. For that to happen, you have to "save" an o/c setting.

Being able to OC a nvidia card has more to do with the quality of the cards manufacture.

If you have just a passive cooler and the minuim rated BGA memory then you won't exactly have much in the way of overclocking power. It's just that simple.

research before buying. Look for cards that have active cooling solutions that you can remove and re-place the thermal compound with AS3 or even totaly replace the active cooler with an all copper HSF. See what speed BGA RAM they use For a Ti-4200/4400/4800SE you are looking for 3.3ns - 3.5ns or faster.

Not all Ti-4200s where created equal. :)
