HELP.. new Athlon 1.2 system slower than cel 633

Hi

Just put together a new system:

Abit kt7a
Athlon 1.2 (not o/c.....yet)
Crucial pc133 256mb
CLabs geforce 256 DDR

the system runs ok but the benchmarks are very poor

3dmark2000 2900
Unreal flyby 22fps
Q3 arena demo1 fastest 1024*768 120fps
treemark complex 12fps

etc etc

new installation of winME, nvidia 6.47, directx 7.1

i was getting better results on a p3 500@620 and cel2 633@790

any help would be appreciated

Well lets start to remowe that ****ty windows me!
then be sure that u have installed all drivers for the motherboard 3d card etc set the agp driver to "turbo" mode! check that everything is right in bios agp4x etc

yes definately get rid of that crappy OS! also try updating to Direct X 8.0 and make sure that the settings are o turbo, also make sure you have all the urrent drivers @ nVidia.com- i have a athlon clssic 600 non OC and nVidia TNT2 8mb-258mb pc-100 ram and i can get 3800+ 3d marks youir should be able to get double that(also run the 3dmark2k at 640x400)

Welcome to the Abit KT7! This board can run much better, it will just require you to tweak EVERYTHING just the way it likes it, or it doesn't run all that great.
Start with the new BIOS (read all about them before you choose which one to use...), next, set everything in the BIOS for the best performance possible.
Next, make sure you have the latest drivers from VIA.
Windows ME is NOT the problem! I run it on one of these (KT7) and it runs great. Personally, I hate win 2k (slower than HELL).

winME is ALOT slower than 95/98 on 3d games lost over 1000in score on winME

thanks for help but still stuck,

installed nvidia 6.72 and VIA 4in1,
3dmarks now 5572, q3 145fps at fastest 1024*768
but it looks like it should be capable of more.

what do you think?

Hi Goat, I'v got a T-Bird 1000@1200,KT7A-Raid,G2 GTS 32 megs and my 3dMark score is 7675. Make sure your mother board drivers are installed,I'm useing 4.26 right now and 6.47 on the Geforce 2 GTS.these work the best for me,I got a jump of 400 points from the 6.47.Make sure your bio's are set for max performance(agpx4,ram settings and such)My old C2 667@950 P3V4X,V3 3000 did only 5400 at it's best,Im hoping to hit 8000+ when im done oc'ing the proc. and I havent even tried to oc the video card yet.Also one thing,I'm not sure how important this might be,You want to install the agp drivers for the mother board before you install the video card drivers,just a thought.
