seeing several people talking about the new AMD
266 chips supposed to be released march 5th
and was curious what the difference is between this and the NEW palamino 266 chip due out in june

by the way will the kt7a board work with the new march 5th chip?

thank you for any light you can shed on this

The KT7A, and any other KT133A based board for that matter, is specifically designed for the 133 MHz FSB TBirds. They are basically the same chip as a 100 MHZ FSB TBird, just with 133 FSB and lower default multiplier. The KT133A boards will work with older chips, and in fact, are better for overclocking the older chips because of the ability to run about 145-55 MHz FSB. The Palomino due out in June is an entirely different chip, but from what I hear, will be compatible with SOME KT133A boards, the KT7A being one of them (see article on front page). But in my opinion the best combo for OC right now is an older (100 MHz) Tbird or Duron mated with a KT133A board.

SickBoy is right. It's the same logic which is applied to Intel PIII overclocking. You want to use a 100 MHz over a 133 MHz chips since you have more headroom for O/C using the FSB. AMD had to move to 133 MHz CPUs because the 12.5 multiplier is about a high as they can go before the small T-Bird caches chokes, crippling performance. Right now the 133 MHz CPUs aren't any faster, so get a 100 MHz one and see how far you can push it. No more need for the "pencil trick" now that the KT133A is out. The higher the FSB, the higher the performance you'll get from your system. So, for now, forget the stupid multiplier, and get a 100 MHz T-Bird and see how far you can push the FSB.

but

the KT133A chipset + multiplyer = AWSOME performance and AWSOME clocks !
