Next Door door to Hell
I am new at this cooling stuff so please bear with me.

I am running a P4 1.8 not overclocked because of Intel and their infinite wisdom as to not letting ppl overclock.

Right now my cpu at idle is 30C and a max of 42C.
My ambiant temp in room fluxuates between 21C and 31C ( no air conditioning) These number according to Intel are fine.

I have a 92mm/39cfm fan on intake and (2) 80mm/34cfm fans on exhaust.

Was going to remove 92mm and install a Y.S. Tech 120mm/125cfm/45db fan on intake BUT run it at 7v.

My questions are:
About how many cfm am I going to get at 7v?
About how quiet is this fan doing to be at 7v? ( Baited question I know)
Will it make that much of a difference between the 120 and 92?

My math says 27db/75cfm. Is this a FAIR assumption?

Thank you to all who answer

i don't know the exact numbers, but from my understanding
My math says 27db/75cfm. Is this a FAIR assumption?
is NOT a fair assumption. You cannot just divide each by two, its some kind of logirithmic(sp, i hate spelling) function.

AND Welcome to The Forums

OK next idea.......

Is 5C ABOVE ambient temperature about as good as it is going to get? I read elsewhere in the forums that there is a certain point where you cannot get any lower in temperature ( obviously ambient temp is lowest with air cooling ). Am I worrying over nothing?

Also where can I get (1) one fan controller for a single fan. Rating of 8watt and .85amp? Can someone refer me to a "build one yourself" thread?

Thanks again for input

Mark

With a load temp of 42 why are trying to get better cooling, especially on an OEM system? Like you said, those temps are fine, so keep your quiet OEM box like it is and save the money for something else.

ya dude dont worry much, my damn abient temperature in my room is 27* on average usually sometimes i get lucky today and my room temp is 23*

When my room is 27* my computer temps are Load 38*
when my room like today is 23* my load was 35*

So dont worry much, sometimes i hit 40* and im not worried just make sure you dont hit above 50, then i would start to worry, however you do have an INTEL so your processor wont burn up or anything it will shut down before all else, and your mobo probably will shut it down as well if it gets to hot.

I'd like an answer to this, too. What effect does voltage have on rpm, dba and cfm? What are the formulas?

I doubt there's going to be formulas that will work. All fans are different. And you're talking about charging and discharging capacitors, not just a constant push of voltage.
For what it's worth though, lookhere.
You'll note that they have a 12V and 7V verson of the same fan. From experience, it's the same fan, just pre-modded.
The data on it?
12V - 130CFM, 48dbA
7V - 80CFM, 33DbA

And to let you know... that P4 is pretty cool right now, and it won't be easy to get it much cooler. There is no need to modify anything.
