Ok, first things first: I am a noob. I know hardly anything about case modding at the moment, and am still in the process of building the first computer I've ever built myself. But when I am finished with it and it's running good, I'm gonna want it to look good. Now, I realize this is a pretty vague question, but I need some help here. What are some mods that, in your opinion, look good for the price. I have a job and have to pay for everything that I do that deals with my computer. My parents don't think I should waste my money making it look good, but, oh well. So I'm paying for everything, and I make about $100 per week. I'm on a budget. So just give me some opinions on what you think looks good and what is a waste of money. Thanks for all replies.

the easiest and cheapest mod is stealthing your drives. All you need is some double-stick tape a something that will cut through thin plastic.

what you do is you take a drive blank and cut off all the un-nescessary parts. What you want to end up with is a flat piece of plastic. You use the double-stick tape to attach it to the drive-tray, and then you use a piece of cork or something similar to attach to the back of the drive blank where the eject button is. Then, all you do is sink the whole drive back in the bay so that the drive-blank is flush with the case.

Total cost, a few pennies for the tape.

Hmm... I think I have a pretty good idea of what you're talking about here, but I am a little bit confused. When you say "drive blank," do you mean the piece of plastic that pops off the case when I'm installing a new CD drive? If so, I have about 7 of them laying around. This sounds like it might be interesting to try, so if you could elaborate a little bit, I'll try it on the old broken computer in my closet to see if I can make it work.

Adding a side or top window isn't too hard. You can buy window kits that come with a window and molding and there are many guides online how to do so as well. Once you do that you can do many mods to the inside: UV reactive stuff (fans, power cables, ide cables, floppy cables etc...) You can get cheap stuff at www.svc.com. Cold cathode tubes look nice as well. Using flexo wrap to conceal your power wires is a nice look, especially if it's UV reactive and you have a couple UV cc's on it. Fan guards are a nice touch and make your rig have a fancier look. Those are the cheapest mods I can think of other than stealthing drives.

OK, thanks everyone, after I get the computer working (all I have left is a HDD and an OS to make it work, then i need a video card to game), I'll probabaly buy a new case, since I'm using the Soyo case the came with the motherboard. I'm thinking about a Thermaltake Xaser III, but I'll ask for some more thoughts in the Case Forum. Then I'll start thinking about what I can do to it.
