This processor K62 450 AHX 2.4V core
Initially I set the bus to 5x, cranked up and nothing happened...dead. I musta missed sumpn. Set core to 2.6V and it started up. I stepped it in 0.1V steps up to 2.9V which I thought was gonna work but it crashed in windows on a second restart but gave apparently the most stable of any other setting. I saw only a slight temperature increase but I can't bring myself to going any higher on the core or trying anything else without asking for some input from the pros. Tried 2.2V also and system inop. Any ideas?
Thanx.

First, K6-2 CPUs don't O/C very well. Second, you've got one of the older 2.4V K6-2 450s, the newer ones have 2.2V cores. So your O/C expections are pretty much nil.

The good news is that your mobo supports the K6-2+ and K6-III+ mobile CPUs which easily O/C to 600 MHz. In addition, they give significanlty better performance even at the default speeds due to the enhanced on-die caches. They run at 2.0V and are on smaller 0.18u dies that run cooler.

You can pick up a K6-2 475+ here for $50:

I thought you could pick up a K6-III 450+ for $65 here:

But they're out of stock. These chips are going fast, so get one now or you'll be out of luck. It's the final and best upgrade for a socket 7 system and once they're gone, that's it.
