I just got my new Duron/Abit combo installed. Bumped the FSB to 143 and am running at 930Mhz.
This is too easy, now I've got to unlock the CPU and install the MonsterII cooler.
You'll probably find that once you unlock the chip and start bumping the multiplier that you'll have to throttle back that FSB, but you'll probably be able to find a sweet spot where a combination of both will yield 1G or there-abouts with good stability and acceptable temperature.
I bought my KT7 Raid about a week before the "A" chipset came out and wish I had know of the impending change. It certainly would not have killed me to wait a week. Then I could have played with the FSB more. I'm not griping in that I can achieve 1G with just multiplier changing, but it would be neat to see some benchmark variations on my particular combo as a result of being able to O/C the FSB. That, having been said, my system is a screamer and in all honesty, exceeds my needs for a hobby PC. It is cool to see my Engineering Modeling Software perform an itteration that took 2 minutes with my K6-2 400, perform the same itteration in 4 seconds. That's real improvement. As far as surfing, MS Office and other type usage, I can't tell the difference. I am happy, but ever seeking.
Hoot
I too bought my KT7-R right before the A came out. I was in desperate need of a MB because my old Amptron one died a horrible fiery death. I wish I had waited a bit longer, but I got one heckuva good deal on a ram/cpu/mb combo at the local computer show. My 650 Duron can hit 1ghz no problem, and 1100 with good cooling, that's without messing with the fsb at all. I did use the pencil trick, but am getting the defrost repair kit today because I'm tired of re-doing the pencil lines every 2 weeks.
I was also very surprised how easy it was to overclock. Now I just need some more gear to play around with, so I can get this thing to the gig.

Im going to get the raid and the 800 duron together for a very reasonable price. How high could this go without much hassle.
I would like 1100.
she wont do 1100 bra w/o exotic cooling, take it from a fellow guru who wrote earlier. 650s and 7s will go as high as the 8-, and for less mo.
good luck,
