View Full Version : durons stock heatsinks, should i replace? please feedback
i want to remove my t.bird stock heatsinks, but i dont have a thermal paste to paste it back!
does the t.bird stock heatsink hase thermal compound?
and if i will decide on getting a new fan/heatsinks, what you guys suggest?
is the chrome orb is ok for 1.1 ghz t.bird?
Hi I don't know about the paste thing, but I just had to tell u NOT to get the chrome orb. U need something better for ur T-bird, like a FOP38, or some kind of alpha.
But don't get the orb, I have only heard bad things about those.
If you keep your case temperature reasonable, you
will do fine with an FOP-32E. Good bang for buck
and not too noisy. The clip has awful strong spring
action, so take it easy getting it locked down. I have
chipped two corners and one whole side edge on
my core before I changed the design. Luckily, no
loss of functionality from the chipping. Buy some
Arctic Silver heatsink compound from the people
you buy your HSF from.

A chrome orb is an OK HSF for non-overclocking situations... but if you want to have supreme stability or do any OC I recommend getting a good HSF, i.e. Swiftech, GlobalWin, Alpha, etc etc. I have a FOP32 and it works just fine, I can squeeze 950 out of my D700.

I have some of the new Vantec heat sinks on order. I can't speak for them until I test them, but I know that you can't go wrong with an Alpha. Thermaltake Chrome Orb's are good for stock cooling only.
Arctic Silver is the thermal compound to get.
thanx for help!
i wont get the chrome orb if i decide to buy a new HSF,
but as for couple of months i'm not planing to buy HSF, and i want to "unlock" my T.bird for overclocking, but i'm afraid to remove the STOCK HSF, because i dont know if it uses some thermal compound, or paste,
because i dont have a thermal compound at home so i dont know if i could re attach it,
does the stock hsf comes with some compound?
