Well I knew my barton was coming in today and when it got here I busted open the package to see what stepping it is and to my excitement it was an AQXEA 0323. Only problem is my 8rga+ died on me last night, no matter what I try to do it just posts CF and doesn't boot. So I slapped in my ecs m848lu *shudder* just to get this computer working until newegg can send me a new board. So here I sit with a brand new good stepping barton running at stock speeds screaming at me "Overclock me, come on you know you want to" but I can't because this board does such a crappy job at it. Ugh.

My hard drive died the day I got my 1700+ DLT3C. :( That was...not a pleasant situation. I feel your pain.

Well it wasn't my money, I was building a computer for my boss at work and I suggested the 2500+ and after I ordered it she asked me what it ran at, told her 1.83ghz and she looked dissapointed so I told her I have a 2.0ghz proc in my comp I could give her for the one I ordered and she said sure! Can't back down from that offer now can you ;)

man ghz means almost nothing now adays look at the difference between a Celeron 2.2 and a 3200. same clock but twice the speed. and yet the celeron cost more. man snip intell. everyone has the impression that intell is better than amd and are willing to fork over twice the money.. for what? what does intell have over amd now? i hate intell ever since i took off my dads p4 stupid over complicated imposable to take off heat sync to find it ripped the cpu right out of the socket bending and ripping out half of the pins. making me pay for the stupid over priced underperforming peice of snip chip. snip INTELL snipEM FOREVER!!

Good grief. Express your hatred elsewhere or in more acceptable fashion.

Where's you order the AQXEA?

Hedgehogforprez
07-14-03, 08:08 PM
I know ghz means nothing, but she knows NOTHING about computers. And my work is closing in about a month anyway so if she finds out, which she won't care, then she can't fire me ;)

Dept: I got mine from googlegear.com, the retail package since I needed a heatsink for her computer and less than 10$ sounds right to me.

This is a question many would like an answer to.

So is it safe to say the AQXEA's are found in googlegear?, I mean, they sell these by batches, so the older cores in these retail packages shouldn't be there, but you might get an older core...just a speculation.

...hehe think i'll just get the AQXDA from GameVE.com and save me the hassle of playing the " I wonder what steppping I'm really gona get" game :D

On GameVE.com it says "AXDA2500DKV4D 9538168270162 AQXDA0322SPEW" is this one as good as the AQXEA cores? Seems good to me.

from what I understand the differance would be slight if any, plus GameVE gurantees its steppings.

I've seen plenty of AQXEA's come from googlegear and not just recently.

My AQXDA0324 will do 2250 at stock voltage, 2310 at 1.7v and 2415 at 1.8v

Why doesnt anyone go over 1.8/1.85....never understood that really. Is it that much more detremental to the chip or what?

not sure...my computer is still on paper  Give me 2 weeks or so and I'll tell you :D

I will when I get mine, 1.9v to 2v depending.

Ambient temperatures here are over 30C atm, making cooling a noisy nightmare at high voltages.

they can still be there, if they stock their stuff the same way I and my work does, the new stuff in the warehouse sits in front of the old (except in the store old stuff gets moved up first) so there probably is a chance you would get an older core.

Some boards won't go beyond 1.85V (mine for instance). In my case, 2300MHz was stable at 1.70V on air but I could not get any higher even when raising the core to 1.85V. Once I water cooled it, it would do 2300MHz at stock voltage and 2500MHz at 1.85V, which is where I ended up.

Vertigo1 also makes a good point.

Yea, I have the 75FRN-L, max is 1.85v, doesnt really make a difference with my 2400+, it just doesnt wanna go over 2.25 Ghz!!!

Oh, I thought maybe there was a very distinct difference in cpu life from 1.85-1.95 or so. I didn't have any temperature problems at 1.95 with my 2400+ at all. Was able to hit 2400 very stable and the temps ( read from socket was load at 43 ) so I didn't mind.

I'm in much the same situation. My 2500 will do 2415 rock solid at 1.8v, but in this weather it's just too difficult to cool properly without annoying the girlfriend with the noise.

I'm seriously contemplating my first foray into water cooling, and am currently tempted by the Asetek Waterchill kit, as it looks like a good one for first-timers like me.

Look on the bright side, now you have plenty of time to burn it in. :)

That sucks, though. :(

Burn what in?? This stupid board doesn't like anything higher than 159fsb and crashes everytime if i run at stock. Right now I have to run it at 11*155 :( a wopping 130mhz underclock!!!!!!

I bought the retail package and got my AQXEA....googlegear said they cannot promise steppings when I asked them so it's luck of the draw. The only good thing is they have free 2nd day air shipping...fasssstttt and free :)

Josebmw
07-15-03, 08:04 PM
Yea, hopefully they dont have the older 2500+ PIV's, you are probably more likely to get an older stepping if you get OEM...
