Does anyone NOT agree that passing Prime95, yet failing to pass the Prime95 Torture Test means that your system is unstable?

That you can pass one but not the other and still consider your system stable?

Prime95 is a great stability test. If you can run your pc overclocked and run all your stuff , i.e. appz, games etc.. stable then don't really worry too much about prime 95. You might notice in the future if you install a high tech game that your system might not like it, that is where prime 95 comes in to play to test your pc for stability at a decent oc.
my 2cents.

Thanx for the reply. Your insight is greatly appreciated.

I plan upon using other stability testers to try and satisfy my need to know how my machine stacks up with other successful OC'ers with systems similar to mine.

It's just frustrating that I cannot complete Prime95 Torture Test when FSB is >140. According to the many posts on several forums I should be able to run it at FSB 150 no problem.

I am not sure if its my cpu or my mobo thats not with it.

Anyway, when I build my next (2nd) machine I will definitely pay more attention to making sure that the components (cpu/mobo) I choose to use are capable of supporting a modest OC if I so choose

as he said, I can overclock my system, play games fine - do normal things fine...a second into torture test and it throws errors...sod it - if I start blue screening, thats when things are unstable.

I guess it's personal preference. If Prime95 fails at any time, for any reason, your system is unstable. Now few systems are 100% stable all the time, so a failure after 24 hours is fine for most people. For those of us who actually participate in GIMPS (i.e. the Prime95 project), a Prime95 failure after 30 days is still bad.

Personally I don't use Prime 95 as a stability test. I've seen it crash stock machines that showed no other problems before or since. If that's an unstable system then just about any computer could be called "unstable." If a system does everything I want without any problems and will complete seti units without corruption, then I'm satisfied.
