where did you buy it

what does the speed on the memory read as? 9700pro should be 2.8ns, if it reads 3.3 then its a flashed 9700.

I think if it has that Ram, it's more than likely 9700 PRO.

well, if it does have 2.8ns ram...then it doesnt matter one bit. It is physically identical to a 9700 Pro, so even if it was a 9700, it doesnt really matter.

Did you buy it in a retail ATI box?

with 2.8ns ram its a 9700pro. The only difference btween 9700nps and pros is the clockspeeds on the ram and core. All 9700nps hit 9700pro core speeds, just most 9700nps have slower 3.2ns ram.

you have 2.8ns ram. in other words............It doesnt matter. don't worry about it.

It's still the honor of the matter though. If this company is actually taking any samsung 9700 np's and flashing them as pros and selling them it's pretty shady business. I don't think there is any way to check this because the cards are completely identical.

personally i dont find it shady at all...just a way for a company to save a few bucks...after all, all of us here overclock in many cases to save a few bucks ourselves. Taking a 2.8ns 9700np and flashing it to a Pro, in the end, the customer gets EXACTLY what he ordered.

Wouldn't it be better for the individual to save this money instead of a massive corporation in most cases? Hell I ended up getting Samsung on my 9700 NP and I was happy with saving the money, now if I only had a chance of getting a hynix of infineon 9700 np i would be a bit more hesitant.

You could always shoot ATI an email with the serial, I'm sure they could tell you what it was when it came off the assembly line (that is if its a built by ATI card).

Most places who sell stuff online arent "massive corporations" (especially if they are selling a non-Pro as a Pro)

Mine actually says "9700 Pro" on the sticker itself. Then again, mine is retail.

i got a bba 9700pro too but on the card it's self it says "9700 128mb" but i onyl paid 350 btw its retail boxed and i saw in sum modding pics, those ppl with bba cards have the same label too i (they also said it as 9700pro)dont no if we got ripped off or not either.

i also check the ram its 2.8ns and the clocks are 324mhz core & 310mhz for ram.
but i see ppl say the stock 9700pros are 325mhz & 310mhz, i dont no if its real or not. but i only paid 350 for it at best buy so i guess it was worth it i dont see any other place selling retail box for 350.

Yea, its real. Whenever you check clock speeds on a video card thats stock, they will almost never be exactly on mark

I don't think the manufacturer would see it that way. Sales people doing something very similar caused us to have locked multipliers. Now, this isn't quite on the same level because you wouldn't need change the voltage and decrease the life span of the product, but still.

However, the consensus seems to be that this was not the case here anyway.

It will say PRO if that is what it is. Mine did and about five others I have seen say it too. Check the #'s with ATI if it is really a ATI built card. They will know ALL.
