I just joined the team and was wondering about some settings.
Whats the difference in setting the client priority from low to med, or even high? On all 3 the cpu usage is the same. The only difference I saw was that on high my pc starting lagging alot.
Also, this program is obviously working the cpu but what else does it stress? The reason I ask is I read that the average amd system takes approx. 4 hrs. for 1 WU. my estamated time right now is just over 5 hrs. my system spec are as follows:

1800+ Pally
A7A266 mobo
256mb pc133
7200rpm 20gb HD

Does that est. time seem right for my system? My only reason for asking is I want to tweak this pc and SETI program to make it work as fast as possible.

If you use the system with SETI running for daily use then leave it at low priority because otherwise setting it high will make SETI take precedence over other apps and games for cpu usage. Everything will definitely lag. Just leave them all at low to be sure.

The rig im running seti on was built to DL 24/7 and thats all. Figure it was a waste and now have it running seti and DL'ing. Nothing else.

I recommend leaving it on low on just about any machine. The reason being it doesn't slow Seti when you're not using the machine for anything else, and when you do use it for something Seti won't interfere. I've also noticed on a handful of machines that setting high priority can cause the seti client to stall when it contacts the server to upload and download data.

With respect to performance, Seti stresses the cpu and memory. To get the best possible performance you need to maximize your memory timings.

BTW WELCOME to the team! Did someone encourage you to join.... ;)

Hmmmmm, who could you be talking about? ;) Glad to be part of the team. Ive been thinking about doing folding or seti, and after talking with ya and seeing you are part of the seti team I really thought about it. I think folding is a great thing, but I figure I help find intelligence else where in the universe and they can give us the cure for cancer. 2 birds with one stone. :p
