HI-
my current system:
Coolbits Tornato 1000
Alpha HS/f ( forget exact model)
ASUS P3V4x
p3 600fcpga @ 800
128megs KTI pc 133
Elsa geforce 2 32 meg
western digital 20 gig ATA 100 HD....good but itel and your inflated pricing

Hello AMD and your killer performance and pricing!!!!
Iwill kk266
tbird 1.2 gig( 200fsb or 266.. not sure if its worth the wait or $)
Crucial ram 2x256 meg cas2 pc 133
use ever thing else from my old system

I need some advice...:)
*First... can i use my Alpha HS/F from my P3 fcpga?

*I dont full understand the whole ram speed/ fsb speed/ multiplyer setup for this configuration... if I want to run my ram at 133 mhz or more do i have to change the multiplyer settings which would intail modifying the cpu.? how is this done?
* if I run my ram @ 133mhz will the cpu then run @ 100mhzX12=1200mhz and my pci slots at there noraml speeds? is this a default setting for this MoBO?
* is it only when you want to increase the fsb speed i.e. to say 124x 12multiplayer=1488( holy **** that would be fast!)that you run in to the problem of increased pci mhz

* how do you modify Multiplyer settings?
* can some one explain the ddr fsb thing? if the tbird 1.2gig is 100mhz fsbX 12 multiplyer=1200mhz......how does the fsb become 200mhz?
Lot of questions........i know..... any advice help would be much apreciated.. my current system was the first that i built.......ill never buy prefab. rigs again......:)

can't give you any help as I am a Newbie to Overclocking still
but would like to say "Well done on buying a far batter Chip Family than anything that Intel can throw at us.

I read an article in PC FORMAT (Available in The UK and maybe some other places around the world) and the Duron beat the Celeron and the new AMD Athlon beat the P4 hands down on nearly all tests, I think there was one test that it didn't I'll have to find the article to tell you what it was.

Again Well Done on choosing a Decent Family ;-) they are faster and Cheeper (I'll never use a Pentium Chip ever again (I've used AMD for about 3 Years know.

I'll try to give you all the expreience i have, though i am fairly new also. ON my mobo, the default 100 FSB yields options for 133 ram and 100, so i would assume that on a 266 mobo, it would have the same. Again, i am not positive, but this has been the same on most of them that I have seen. Also, if you have not already purchased the mobo and memory, you may want to look into DDR ram - If the option is there, it couldn't hurt! Well good luck.

Also the Multiplier settings. From what I have read, most of the 1.2's have shipped unlocked, but if not, all you have to do is get a conductive pen and fill in the L1's. Alsoi think that you may wanna go with an Abit, or Asus, but i would say Abit. The reason i say this is that both offer in bios multiplier and FSB tweaking, but i have heard the abit allows for better (smaller) intervals on voltage. DDR stands for double data rate, hence, 133 fsb translates to 266, and 100 to 200.

thx matcha ....Ive read a lot of reviews on Mobo's for the tbird and the Iwill kk266 looks to be the cream of the crop..... beating out abit and ausus in almost every sites review of the boards...... as far as DDR ram goes its only slightly faster than what im looking at so....blah ill wait for the board and ram manufactures to come up with a better solution...:)
