I'm having a problem installing new video card drivers, I have a Radeon ATI 9600 Pro, whenever I try to update the drivers for it all 3d programs on my computer crash the computer after running them for a minute or so.
Any suggestions.
It is not the Driver version or the programs.

Are you overclocked?? Does it run with the drivers that came with it on the CD?? I have the ATI 9700 All in Wonder Pro and have had no trouble.

THe catylast drivers are actually the manufactures (ATI) drivers. If you are wondering if they are better than the ones that come with the card, then in almost all cases, yes since they are updated and increase performance.

Welcome to the Forum!
A few years ago the GPU manufacturer put out "reference drivers" which wer not always the best match for all the various brands of cards using the GPU. Today the card manufacturers stay much closer to the reference board design and therefore the GPU manufacturers drivers are usually very good if not the best.
Do you uninstall the ATI drivers before loading the new version?
You might need to clear out all the old drivers b4 upgradeing your drivers. Look for a program compatible with your os on guru3d.com in teh video card driver section.
Then install standard vga drivers. Then install your cat or omega driver of choice. I personally use omega but the new cats work rather well too.

You might want to check out your chipset drivers for updates. On many the AGP is a critical part of it.

I was having similar problems with my 9700 Pro(powered by ATI). I made sure to uninstall the whole package, including the drivers, and reinstalled the updated driver. Works great, hasn't crashed yet(knock on wood) BTW I am OC a 2.8C P4 @3.14...
Good Luck
