I just got my 800 Duron installed and running this past Friday. Got just under 900mhz by increasing the FSB to 112........temp at around 120F under load.......maybe a touch higher and using a chrome orb HSF.

I have been doing a lot of reading and research about closing the L1 bridges so I can unlock the multipliers and OC that way. After reading the posts here I see the most commonly proposed fix I have seen elsewhere........the pencil "trick"..............is somewhat discouraged here. Now although my system has been running stably for several days at 900 I am concerned about the heat I am getting.

This brings me to my questions:

If I want to unlock the multipliers what is the
best method?

What should my optimal temp be?........I still
think 120F is a bit high and after an hour of
Q2 it bumps up around 123F.

If I choose to go with the conductive pen how
can I expect to spend on one and where
should I look?

Thanks for any help in advance.

The conductive pen or the defogger repair kit seem to be the way to go for unlocking the multiplier. Without touching anything, my 1g TBIrd does 1.1, and the hottest it has gotten running CPUBurn and Prime95 torture test for 12 hours has been 35.7C. I got my conductive pen at http://www.alliedelec.com. By the way I have it watercooled, and haven't yet messed with FSB or voltage increases.

A soft pencil will also do the trick. Most times when the 'trick' doesn't work, just wipe it off and try again.

Hi There
Just to let you know I got my 800Mhz Duron to run at 920Mhz (115*8) and it's very cool and very stable.
I get a temp from 32°c/89.6°f (At a Standstill) to 45°c/113°f(Full load). If I was you I'd check to see if your heatsink is on properly and that the core v is as it should mine is at 1.616 (VcoreA) what HSF are you using? is the heatsink aluminum / Copper?
what Motherboard are you using?

Running a new Abit KT7 with 192 MB PC100

Generic chrome orb HSF with aluminum base

System seems to be very stable for the last few days but as I said I feel it is a touch to warm. The orb is seated correctly and well. Before I put it on and was running the basic HSF I was in the 150F range. This HSF and some decent thermal paste and it dropped where it is now.........maybe 115F idle to 125F after a couple of hours playing Q2.

Thx for your help guys it's appreciated ;D
