People say your waterblock design must be different when using a TEC as opposed to normal WCing. Why? Is this because the TEC puts out more heat, so the water should be in the block for a longer period of time? Or what?

Anyways, I'm thinking of using a TEC w/ this block, but I would like to know if you think it's worth it.

What wattage tec? I frequently use blocks not designed for tecs in configurations that should be all wrong, however they do seem to succeed in achieving my goals.

Give it a try and see how it fairs. It may perform very well directly on the CPU but with a TEC you have a lot more surface area to cool. Swiftech is probably the best when it comes to TEC cooling due to the large open chamber design.

I am really unsure which tec I'm going w/ right now. For now I will be using it with my 1.4Ghz Tbird. And I know I want to be able to run it off of my Antec True550W PS (I would LIKE just to run it off of 12V).

W/ my current block I am getting 49 load, while oced 137x12=1575.5mhz (1.85vcore). W/ my MSI board I can't go over 137FSB without the USB crapping out. But have no fear the NF7-S REV2.0 will be here thursday! I'll have to see what temps I'm getting off of that board w/ the block remounted, hopefully a little better.

If it would make a dramatic difference I guess I could put my current block on the NB (if it will fit, lol). But I'll try it out to see how it does on the CPU w/ TEC first of course.

Thanks for the input.

EDIT: PS Max Load is rated for 24 Amp on the 12V line and 40 Amps on the 5V line. So does this mean I could run the TEC off of both the 12 and 5V lines? Please reccomend one for my uses.

I think people dont recommend TECS for use like the one in the picture you showed because it doesnt look like it will cool the entire surface area of a 50mm by 50mm TEC. The block you showed looks primarily designed for AMD chips where you have a small surface area to cool whereas with TECS or P4 heatspreaders there is a much larger surface area to cool.

Thanks for the reply. I guess it's back to the mill!!!

Tec heat evenly across the block CPU pushes heat in middle of the block
What the size of that block

The entire block is 3.25" X 2". The finned area is 3/4" wide and 1" (or was it 1.25?) in length. And as you can see length-wise, shorter fins continue on a radius. But the base is only like .04".

if ya have a mill at hand, mill another one up, with wider fins, as wide swuare as you can fit in there, to get more surface of the TEC coverage. lookit the other peoples input on this, as im in no way an expert.

a 50mm tec is apx 1.9'' x 1.9'' the fines will have to be bigger than that sory about late reply
