View Full Version : Where to connect the fan wire from Enermax/Antec PS?

The Enermax 330W that I use for my servers and the Antec 300W that I have for my home machine have a fan wire to attach to the mobo. I use Asus A7V8X or Epox 8rda+, where do I attach this wire? Should I NOT attach it for some reason? I understand the case fan connector could shut the fan totally OFF when in powersaving (sleep?) mode, that would be bad...
Actually, the PS fan is pretty quiet compared to the case fans.
there should be a place to plug it into to monitor fan speeds, it shouldn't actually change the fan speed.

that wire allows you to monitor the RPM of your PSU fan, and as you said allows the mobo to shut the fan off in suspend mode... you can use any of the 3 pin fan headers on the motherboard except the cpu fan header since i doubt that this particular header is affected by sleep/suspend

why do you think that would be bad?
why do you think that would be bad?
because it might overheat? i think thats what he thinks, which is what I also think. ok too many thinks:D

On ours, it just allows you to monitor the fan speed of the fans in the PSU. That's it.

Indeed, it is an Antec case, and I forgot for a moment that this is a speed monitor (I knew that!) However... the question remains... where do you hook it up? To the case fan header? Where? I suppose monitoring the PS fan is not critical, but hey, the wire is there, I'd like to hook it up!

If you have an open fan header on your mobo use it. To my knowledge no mobo as a PSUfan header or one labelled that way (normally I've seen fan1 or some such).

Thanks, that was simple. Use any open fan header!
