serial ata raid card

I was wondering how serial ata raid cards worked. Is it basicly just a card that connects in a pci then you hook your hdd's to that card?

You also will need the disk. Pop in XP disk, and sometime during the install it will ask you to put it in. Its easy, so don't sweat it. :D
But don't lose the disk.
