View Full Version : Quick question on temps
I got my 1000 TB at 1100. I am geting idle temps of 28-31'C depending on room temp, under load (3dmark looping demo, prime95 in the backgroung for a few hours it gets to 48'C but I haven't been able to get it higher. It's only a week old or so, should I burn it in a little more or is this ok? (volts are at 1.725)(FIC AZ11E MOBO) Want to make sure this is all good before I go to 1200. Thanks. :-)

That temp sounds OK. Before you go any high make sure you have a good cooling solution. As a matter of fact that will probably be the next question someone asks.
I want to get a better heatsink, the one I have is ok. I don't really like the big difference in temps between load and idle. When I am just messing around(like I am now) its at 34'C. What kind of hsf would anyone suggest? And where can I get a good one? Thanks :-)

The best socket A heatsinks are the globalwin FOP38, the alpha PEP66T, and the swiftech MC462 - though the swiftech is damn expensive. There are others, but the alpha and the globalwin are the most popular and the swiftech's the best performer. Not sure where to buy from in the US, maybe someone else could help you with that.
Check out Joe's review of a bunch of socket A hsf's:

Here's the swiftech:

http://www.2cooltek.com has some good prices. Good articles also, I discovered the website from somebody's post here and placed my order last night.
Yep,I bought my PAL 6035 from 2cooltek and love it.Use a thin layer of Artic Silver and make sure your case cooling is as good as possible.
T-bird 1000@1233 1.75V
Idel temp 25-27C
Full load 36-39C
It sounds like your current HSF has the capacity to handle average CPU duty cycling but starts to run out at high CPY duty cycling. If you don't do high CPU duty cycling, you already have what you need. If you do, or simply want a little reserve, then do consider a step up. There are many choices out there. Reviews are the best source of determining what you want. Don't read just one though. Average as many as you can get your eyes on.
