I bought two sticks of this when i first bought all my computer parts ->

KINGSTON 512MB 400MHz DDR PC3200 DIMM CL2.5

I was wondering if this is good "gaming" ram or should i upgrade to some Corsair, Crucial, or another maker? I was also wondering if this ram would be possible to overclock at all since im gonna move it into a older system if yall think i should get new ram.

Games i will be playing are : WoW, Warcraft 3, SWG, UT2003, Doom 3, Wolfenstein, Quake 3, you get the drift. :p

Thanks.

Yeah its fine for gaming. What are your specs now? Are you overclocked? The only reason to get 400 mhz ram is basically to overclock it. I heard kingston ram is a good overclocker but my friend got some and his diddnt go very high. he could have hada bad stick though.

You have to realize also that ram isnt going to affect gaming. it doesnt really matter what ram you have just as long as it runs the game right? I suppose more ram will make it better. You can probably overclock that ram pretty well though to get your games running better if they seem to be slowing down.

Looks like you've got Kingston ValueRam there. The ones that are good for overclocking are the "HyperX" series. For all intents and purposes, 400mhz is good enough for anything now (and it won't make a difference if you get HyperX, corsair..etc) as long as you don't overclock.

It depends on what system you have. If you have an 800fsb p4 cpu and you are planning on overclocking it, get some faster ram. If you're not planning on going above 200fsb(800 for p4) then that ram should be fine.

I hear Kingston's HyperX series is what's supposed to be good for gaming. I had a couple stick of Kingston's Value RAM, and couldn't get it to run more than 5-10 MHz beyond its spec. Not that impressive if you're looking to OC.

Im prolly gonna OC my FBS above 200. I prolly wont OC my ram. What is good timings to use? I think now its at : 8 , 2, 2, 2.5t or soemthing like that

Will i have to get faster ram to OC my cpu beyond 200 fbs with it being stable? My games already close to the desktop for no reason. Could it be the ram?

it could be that you have pirated games hehehe. ram could be a problem but sometimes those are like driver problems or some other software issue.

That ram is more than accurate for any type of gaming rig.

I dont pirate games. I do "get" music and some software though. And if i like something or a band enough I buy their CD.

OC-Master, what do you recomend my timings and memory voltage be on if im gonna OC my cpu above 200 fbs?

Put your voltage as high as it will go and do the fastest(lowest) timings you can except i would keep TRAS at 7 or 8. Find the fastest FSB at 7-3-3-2.5 then the fastest at 7-3-3-2 then see if you can lower the other two.. test them all and see whichi is fastest.

What program will tell me how fast my ram is running?

YOU CAN TRY "SISOFT SANDRA" TO MAKE BENCHES IN THE "MEMORY BANDWIDTH" MODULE SO YOU CAN COMPAIR WITH OTHER SYSTEMS AND EVEN WITH YOURS.IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE TIMINGS OF YOUR MEMORY AT ANY TIME TRY "CPUZ".
BUT LET ME TELL YOU THAT THE STICKS YOU HAVE CAN GO VERY VERY HIGH.BELIEVE ME.
