hi, as my first post in these forums, i'll be nice and quick. I have an A7V with a t-bird 1.2 ghz @ 1.3 (104x12.5). Do you people think 59 deg celcius is too hot for a full load? its 50 at idle

That's roughly the same temp that I get with my 1.2 @ 1387 (9.5 x 146) 1.85V.
The CPU is generating 80W of heat according to Radiate (nice little program) and is pushing my Taisol/YS-Tech hsf to the limit.
I hope that my watercooling setup will take care of the temp problem.

At that temperature, I would panic. My 1.2 @ 1.33(10x133) ran stably with air cooling(before my current water cooling) at 36 C idle and 41 C full load. Get a better HSF and Arctic Silver. It will devcrease your temperature tremendousely.

Boy I heard that. I DEFINATLY would NOT run my cpu at that temp...ouch. Probably using frag tape or something...heehee....

My 1.2 T-bird is set to 1.4gig, and I am only 30c idle or about 40-41c under load. You are WAY too hot. What HSF do you have, and how much compound did you use between the fan and the CPU? One or two drops of compound spread out over the CPU is plenty. It should be paper thin - then put the HSF on top. Leave the cover off your computer and see what temps you get - then put the cover back on your case and see what happens. With great case fan cooling, my temps actually drop when I put the case on because the fans force so much more air through the system.

Why do you guys overclock your FSB more than your multiplier...is there a reason? Cause upping your FSB can cause other device to malfunction?

Exactly. In order to overclock FSB more, you need to make sure all the other components are good ones. If you succeed in higher FSB, you'll have better performance. One way to test this is after overclocking, try running 3DMark2000. It will give you much higher score than lower FSB settings. Well, this is just one example.

At 133 MHz most mobos have a 1/4 divider for the PCI bus. So running at 145 is like running at 35MHz instead of 33 which is not a big deal for most devices.

OTOH with the higher fsb you increase the memory speed and the bandwidth of the bus between CPU and memory, which can significantly improve throughput and overall speed.

My guess is that my Taisol would run lower temps with a higher CFM fan ... but noise is something that I don't want. I would've tried the Volcano II fan but decided to go watercooling instead.
