View Full Version : 5 minute BIOS load?

5 minutes may be a little over dramatic, but it does take way too long to load BIOS. I thought my cpu was overheating and freezing my comp, but my temps are now 43C with my cooling mod. I wan't to know it's stable before I even try installing an OS.

Can someone help? Or let me know whats going on?

Is a HDD installed? If so format it and see if it still takes a while. Usually when that happens to me, the bios isn't seeing a bootable drive.

Also slow memory speeds/errors have been known to make bios boot times slow.

Thanks for the help, I'll try that now....
It seems to be running stable, XP 2000 @ 1833mhz. I'll go for more a little later.

Wow. Buy a heatsink. Slk-900 or 800 with a nice fan. That's too hot for me...

That's in a warehouse without AC, I'm going for watercooling as soon as I can afford it, phase change if I can.

43c is not bad at all. Those temps are fine, it should be perfectly stable.

41C in the AC, running stable, and BIOS is loading in good time(got it to recognize the HD). Now, is there any known bugs with the windows 2000 install disk format utility?

Try looking in the BIOS for Rapid BIOS boot or Quick POST and enable it.
