Compatibility issue

A friend of mine picked up a compaq presario for 50$
amd 266mhz
came with everything monitor pinter etc.....

I was wondering if you could replace the amd 266
which i believe is a k6-2 3d with the 500 mhz k6-2 3d....
or would the board not be capable

I dunno much about the compaq's and their upgradabillity

Find out who makes the mobo and check out there website. It should tell you which procs you can stick in there. You may also have to flash the bios.

more than likely you will have to hunt down the latest bios revision for your motherboard which might make your setup slightly unstable ... and generally speaking you can drop in the 450 k6/3 or the 550 k62 ... it is alot easier if you can find an online manuel for your mobo ... best of luck .....
