View Full Version : Heatsink don't touch CPU...weird
I got a problem installing heatsink to the CPU. My hsf is the alpha pal 6035 and the cpu is Tbird 1.2 ghz. On the CPU there are 4 rubber so I guess I don't need to apply the 4 rubber to the bottom of heatsink or do I?
Anyway when I try to place the heatsink on the cpu which touch the 4 rubber, isn't the heatsink suppose to touch the CPU? I look at it underneath and it's no where touch the CPU, is it maybe because I didn't press it with the clip yet when I install it on the motherboard? Can someone answer?
The little rubber feet will squish down when you clip it, they are there to keep the heatsink even. You should be ok once you clip it, when you do make sure that it is touching the core, if its not DON'T TURN ON THE COMP!! 8 or 10 secs like that and you have a keychain. :-)
Once you apply adequate pressure to engage the clips, the rubber feet will compress allowing the HSF to contact the CPU. The feet help (not 100%) ensure that the HSF exerts equal pressure on all parts of the core.
Hoot
4 feet good, 8 feet BAD!! so don't put the feet on the heatsink. they'll prevent the hsf coming in contact with the cpu die. i suppose you could ut them in a different position to the cpu ones, for more stability... but i don't think it's necessary.
and don't worry, the feet on the cpu are spongey, so when the hsf is clipped on, they'll compress and the hsf will touch the core.

A keychain which you will hook me up with right? ;D
The rubber feet that came with the Alpha are for use with Intel Coppermines only.
DON'T USE THEM ON YOUR T-BIRD!!!!!!
You can fry it in less than 10 seconds if the H/S isn't on right.
I have the PAL6035 the rubber feet on the PAL are for Intel FCPGA. Do not attach them for the TBird, since the TRBird has its own soft feet.
