So I moved two weeks ago into a house (yeah)
got everything unpacked... made sure my honey do list was done (paint, build, clean, etc)
off I went into my play room to set my rigs up.

Its all up and going for a week now, My girl come in to use the internet (I am waiting for new wireless gear to set the house up)

So there she is surfing her little heart away and poof... page cannot be display... on every site she tries to go to...even the one she has been on five minutes ago...

I answer the cry for help... checking every setting twice, cables, hub power... nothing obvious...

Time to call tech suckport...

"Anything wrong with ya'lls network?"
tech dummy "No sir, everything is up in your area."

"So why mid surfing am I cut off?"

I give account info...

tech dummy "well sir you moved and you need to re-register your account."

"what do you mean, I have had internet access for two weeeks...here at this address."

tech dummy "we cleared your account today because you moved, you need to it up again."

"No letter, no phone call, no e-mail...you just deleted my info?"

...no response

He then directs me to the site to register...and what do you know it doesn't work.

tech dummy "...you need to disable your firewall. so your computer can get a valid IP address from our DHCP server."

I decide not to argue and after disabling the forty thousand norton services that make Norton Internet security work, and numerous restarts (both the cable modem and my PC)...It still doesn't work.

he then takes me through a BUNCH of piontless steps... and after an hour tells me: "I am going to have to put a ticket on this and someone from tech support will call you by MONDAY."

"Am I not talking to tech support?"

TD "No sir, this is the help desk...we filter calls for tech suppport."

"So I going to be without your product all weekend?"

TD "pretty much, it is after calling hours for our tech support...some one will contact you by monday."

"When did calling hour end?"

TD "about thirty mintues ago."

So being as polite as I can  "T H A N K Y O U, I W I L L W A I T F O R T H E I R C A L L!"

The morale of the story kiddies... If you move and you use Comcast/attbi don't think it will work when you get there...call their dummies and ensure you account doen't get deleted...heck ask for a tech support person...not a helpdesk dummy.

Yikes, yeah moving has some downsides.
you on cable? if so you should not have told them you where moving just tell them you want to cahnge your addess.
I have worked for Comcast/Media One in Ann Arbor Michigan, and I would say im the only one there that had any brains during the conversion. I am a degreed computer tech with certs, most of the other guys you ask? just cable installers, high school diploma, im not saying they all where dumb, but quite a few where not the brightest. And I never had to call tech support, for obvious reasons, but while being trained to install cable lines I sat with a guy who had to call them, not sure why he did, it was a simple fix. but hey im the new guy so I wasnt going to but in.
anyway, I dont know why they deleted your account, thats not procedure, I would call and complain till your heats content, then demand a discount. it works, I did that here when a guy came to my house to suppose to disconnect the neighbors cable, but instead did mine, when I went out to confront him, and told him I was not to be disconnected, he told me off and left without double checking, so I got on the phone and called and chewed them out. I got that month free :D so take it from me it may be a good thing cause you could get a month free te he he he.

In Mass I've never had problems with their tech support. I've always gotten tech support, not help desk. Though since it got bought by Comcast, I've only had to deal with their dept. twice.
