View Full Version : do you guys ever turn off your computer?
and is htere anything wrong with taht.. can it damage ur computer?
I leave my computer on all the time aside from the occasional quick restart... doesn't seem to damage it. Mine is running as happy as it ever has and it hasn't been off since the day I got it 6 months ago...(not over clocked only k6-2 500)
Statistically, most failures occur during power up. Aside from wear on the fans, (assuming the HDs sleep), you are better off leaving them running. With analog devices, its a little more complicated. Component aging tends to change performance and that aging is a function of how many running hours they accumulate.

I like to leave mine all running all the time (with a daily reboot). But there is one thing to consider and that is the dust and such that will be drawn in by the cooling fans, this is something that will affect any computer overclocked or not. This means that you have to be more diligent in your maintainence, ie... opening up the case more often and making sure that you have no obstructions caused by the accumulation of dust. Don't forget about the thin layer that will accumulate on the heat sink. This will act as an insulater, keeping the heat in.
