I'm looking for an internet host to host my personnel website, important qualities are:
1. No banners (or if none exists, a tiny one)
2. A nice address (none of this www.free_site121124for_you.com/)
And that's about it! As you can see, space isn't really important to me. I need less than 5 megs.

free or pay?
have you considered hosting it yourself? having your own domain?
www.web1000.com seems to be the best no-ad free hosting of choice around here.

I host my own, so I don't know that many hosting sites.. I'll let others chime in with their favorites..
Does your ISP offer any hosting? When I was on dialup, every ISP I was with offered webspace, unfortunately, it is usually http://www.isp.com/~username/ for the url. You can get redirectors with easier names though. Sites like kickme.to or no-ip.com let you set those up.

Hmm...yes I think my ISP may offer it I'll check now)
Those redirectors though, they require you to be online if you want your friends to visit right?

If you were hosting your site from home, then you would need to be online for other people to see your site through the redirector. If your site is hosted off of your ISP's server, you could be offline and still have your site up. Hope that helps.

But if I was offline, the redirector wouldn't work, right? It needs to go through my IP address, doesn't it? (I know nothing about this stuff)
Try www.ionichost.com, the last time I check they have very little advertising

Our very own forum member Skip does hosting: www.akmdevelopment.com/hosting
Give him a PM or check around the site.
If you are re-directing to a site stored with your ISP (like http://www.myisp.com/~username) then you do not have to be signed on for the redirection to that site to work. The redirection service is forwarding it right to the webspace you have with your ISP, so it doesn't need your IP address to work. Hope this helped.

A redirector is very simple. Everything that goes to http://mysite.no-ip.com gets sent to http://www.myisp.com/~myusername/index.html
I'm currently with Altera hosting and they have great service and are relatively cheap @ 5$ a month and they support all the bells and whistle and you get get a doman name ie. YOURNAME.com for pretty cheap nowadays, I think mine was 15$ for a year and you can set then up that YOURNAME.com goes to any hosted site.
