View Full Version : Temp question???
Got a 1gig t-bird oc to 1284/1.5v/12x107. Idle temps are around 43c and full load with prime 95 and Seti running is 48c. I was just wondering why I don't have a big difference in temps like everyone else. My idle temp just seems so high. Current hsf is chrome orb with Volcanno II enroute. Are these temps safe?
if 1.5v is correct, then I say the temp's are a little high.
some people are going to say the Orb is not worth a crap, and I'am not going to get in to that.
do you have good case ventilation?(fan in, fan out and nothing blocking flow).
also may want to try reseating the heatsink and use a good thermal paste(artic silver).
150volts is correct. Yeah case ventilation is good/ 2 inlet and two outlet. Artic silver is coming with the new heatsink. I still can't figure out why i don't have a 10-15C difference in temps between idle and full load like everyone else. I'm using CPU cool program.
Don't worry about the small change in temp going from idle to full load. My system only has a 2 deg change using the thermistor under the CPU as a sensing device. Repositioning that thermistor to be directly under the core, as opposed to offset from it, and in contact with the chip (small dib of HS grease) will improve the accuracy of its readings. I personally believe that if you see large swings in temperature between idle and load, it only means that your HSF is working within its capacity at idle, but runs out of capacity to wick off heat at full load. My FOP-32 was that way, but when I "bit the $ bullet" and changed to the Swiftech MC-462A those temperatures converged. The 462A is way overkill for my setup, especially considering that I keep my internal case temp at only 2 degrees above my room temp of 20C.
Overkill or inadequate HSFs will make both idle and load temps converge. My guess is your Orb and grease combo are near exhaustion already at idle and that's why the temp does not increase dramatically at full load. I could have put this all more clearly, but my first cup of coffee is only now taking effect and I don't feel like rewriting this.

you need a good peltier/heatsink system, to cool that bitch!!!
tom leufken use to sell some nice stuff like that.
