hey, i got a t-bird 1.2 gig and i just got some arctic silver thermal grease, and i was just wondering how i get the old silicon grease off the chip? i know i can use nail pollish remover to get it off the heatsink but i'm not sure about the actual chip.
also while taking my hsf off the chip i accidently broke the little clip thing off :(. I'v super glued it back on (do you think it will hold?) anyone know anything else i can do to fix it?

one last thing (because i'm dumb!) what voltage should i be using for the 1.2 gig?

thanx for any help! i really appreciate it :)

Be careful using nail polish remover. Some brands have a little oil in them to make them easier on the skin. Go to the local Radio Shack or Electronics supply house and get some high strength Flux Remover, non-residue Contact Cleaner, etc. A real good solution is the big cans of brake degreaser available from automotive stores. Beware of Environmentally Friendly Alternatives. You aren't going to be using enough to threaten the environment.
The more it costs, the better it is. The government here in the US slaps a hefty tariff on the powerful stuff.

Good ole rubbing alcohol does a pretty good job too, just make sure and use a LINT FREE cloth or applicator...
