View Full Version : What heatsink should I use?
I bought an athlon 1GHz and an asus a7v motherboard about two months ago. I am currently using a thermaltake chrome orb as a heatsink and I'm getting temps of 52C under normal usage up to 60C when using SETI. I'm not planning on overclocking in the near future, but these temps seem really high to me. What heatsink can anyone suggest I use, maybe even for slight overclocking?
Thanks,

Don't fool around get a good fan/heatsink. Even if do not overclock right away, your cpu will be happy, and you may be able to re-use it on a future system as well. I really like the Alpha PAL 6035. Try www.2cooltek.com he's a good guy with fast and reasonable shipping.

Get an Alpha either at 2cooltek, or 3dfx.com both are cheap and I have purchased from 2cool and never had a problem.
Watch out on the reviews, I was comparing a lot of coolers for the Tbird I am buying this week and most use a p3 for testing.
A lot of coolers look good on a p3.
Well I will use an Alpha till I get off my ass and put my water cooler back in my case.
Now where did I put that pelter?
Weeeeeeeeeee aint this stuff fun ::
Ok, thanks for the input... I'm going to buy an Alpha.

Neat comparison. 2cooltek has a similar set-up, and I think that even though he sells the stuff, he is honest with the results - at least for alphas they match my observations.
