View Full Version : Does moving from cas2 to cas3 help ?
I got the crucial 256mb cas2 sdram and running at cas2 right now, will it help my success of overclock more if I go to cas3?
choosing the slower memory setting`s will help the fsb oc and give you a higher mhz reading but will slow the memory scores on sandra
in my mind its a trade off

overall system performance is never just faster overall Mhz. Overall system performance is a combination of memory timing, lower multipliers the better, higher fsb's, more memory, higher internal clock speeds.
This is the way it should be. Setting to CAS 3 to get an extra 5Mhz of FSB is a very stupid move indeed.
kat's on the button... it's a trade-off. but you'll have to get a whole load more mhz/a much higher fsb to justify the drop to cas3. test your current system's performance with something like sandra. then try dropping to cas3. see how high you can get, and then benchmark again. if your scores are higher, then it was worth it.
