They are offering free glasses (just shipping and stuff $10 for $80 dollar stuff, $20 for $230 stuff) inbetween pages 176 & 177 of August's Maxim. Anyone find a hole in this? I can't..
Instructions inclosed: "Use the retail price of the product to find the P,H&P charge on the chart. Pay only the P,H&P amount for each item ordered. If you did not choose a total of 4 sunglasses, you may buy the Vanquish Watch separately for our reduced price of $120 plus $9.95 P,H&P."
The watch is free if you order 4 sunglasses. I think I'll jump on this unless someone can find something wrong.
Their site is www.vanquisheyewear.com
Offer expires 9/30/03. "30 day unconditional money back (P,H&P) guarantee."
Edit: just noticed the deal is on their site too. Lame site but whatever.

My friend did that. I think he ordered 3 pairs of sunglasses and got them in a couple of weeks. It worked out great. I was gonna do it too, but I had already bought 2 $85+ sunglasses...oh well.

I can find a hole.

You can affix an arbitrary value to sunglasses quite easily. The vast majority of expensive sunglasses (over $100 ) are made out of the same materials as the $1 store sunglasses. The only differences are 1. styling 2. marketing and 3. the name printed on them. Styling can be easily copied and an expensive sounding name can be made up.

Why do you think they charge more on shipping for "more expensive" sunglasses? Doesnt cost more to ship them.

They are just $10 and $20 sunglasses that they have assigned a crazy value to so you can think your getting a deal.

I hope your friend enjoys his free sunglasses that he paid at least $40 for.

You are absolutely correct, my best friend owns a Sunglass shop and he ordered a couple of these just to look at them and they were the same quality as the glasses you would find at the $1 Stores or sold by a street vendor.

I agree for the most part but not all glasses are created equal... my dad's glasses for instance, the polarized film is sandwitched inbetween two pieces of glass instead of just stuck on the top layer, to protect them. They also have a anti-glare coating on the inside and outside of them as well as being darker toward the top and bottom than the middle. I love the anti-glare coating (ever been driving and have the sun behind you?). BLAH BLAH. Guess I'll stick with my current ones then :)

Yeah, the glasses were a bit cheap looking, but they were decent (look better than $1 glasses). The ones I paid $85+ though are better. Mine are scratch resistant and shatter-proof, as well as being vented.

I personally have 2 pairs of the glasses, the deal is real and the glasses are very nice, the reason they are so cheap is because they are trying to get the vanquish name out to the public, Go for it

acually, nerlic hit the nail on the head. you can charge anything you want for sunglasses, then slash the price, and some geeks are gonna "ooo" and "ahh" over the "great deal they got"

I assume your including OakleysŪ, when you say "expensive".
You outta' try on a pair of OakleysŪ, to see what I'm talking about when I say: nothing compares. OakleysŪ lenses are nothing like anything you've ever looked through. The way the lens cleans the light and image up outdoors is just phenomenol. While I don't think their worth $175 avg., I believe their a great pair of glasses.

i reallly dont think the post office cares and i know that they couldnt weigh that differently

Guess what?
I used to own a pair of oakelys. They were actually of worse qality than the $1 store sunglasses Im using now. The lenses were cheap, and the frame would snap apart at the slightest provocation. Many of my firends who have owned oaklies have had similar experiences.

Guys, dont mean to burst anyones bubble, and im really hoping no one has ordered from that ad yet... They are a joke. The glasses are of the same quality as well, i cant think of anything at this moment- they suck! In the ad they may seem cool looking and so on, but please take my work for it and dont fall for the gimmick thinking that you are getting a good deal. There is no such thing as a good deal, someone is ALWAYS making money off you in some way.
And yes, i do know someone who has ordered those Gattaca glasses personally, i laughed my a$$ off at him when i saw the glasses for myself.

Now regarding expensive glasses all being well, bad, i STRONGLY recommend you goto a nice sunglass shop and try on a pair of maui jims, oakleys are alright, but try on the maui jims or revos. Sure, there prices are high, but when you compare them to any other glasses, there's really no other choice- no comparison.
The frames are usually made from titanium (not plastic) so dont count on this stuff ever breaking unless you REALLY put effort into breaking your $300-400 pair of sunglasses. Next, the lenses are superb. Why would you EVER put a $1 pair of sunglass on one of the most important and sensitive sensory organs on your body? How much time of r&d was put into making a good lenses do you think? Buy from a company that you know designed lenses made specifically to protect your eyes from uv light, and polarized light. In essense, that IS what sunglasses are supposed to do. Not just dim incoming light, but block the rays which you shouldnt have to see.

I am not going to drag on with this, but please do not say that all sunglasses are equal. Thats just ridiculous. As with everything, you get what you pay for.

I hope i saved some people some cash. if anything, save some cash here and there and buy a good pair of glasses which you and your eyes will appreciate.

PS id really like to hear some peoples reactions to how they liked maui jims. I recently bought my first pair of them, and ive decided never to wear any other brand. O yea, if someone gets glasses from those ads, id also like to hear how you felt right when you opened up the package!

O yea, one more thing, i noticed someone mentioning that the reason this so called 'deal' is going on because they are trying to go public. Well, ive been seeing these ads popup on countless magazines since 3 years ago, so thats not an acceptable excuse anymore. Ive never heard of any other companies choose to promote their products this way, and once you buy these glasses, you definately wont speak of them too highly so this company has no chance if they do decide to go 'public'. All i can say is stay away.

i get all my shades down in mexico.....$5 for same style you pay $150 at sunglass hut. Not worth it imo...id rather make the trip to mexico, you get cool shades...and stay there a few night and enjoy the beaches(if your by the ocean), food, music, and the chicas.

Well I do own a pair I get compliments all the time, I have owned many name brand glasses and these are right up there with them, they had 4 or 5 different pairs when I ordered and they came with 4 different sets of lenses that were interchagable.

I wouldnt feel safe with $200 pair of sunglasses anyways

Even if they would never break, I would probably loose them or they would get stolen.

Can anyone guess how much Junk Mail you will be getting for the next 3 years cuz of this SCAM?

I own a pair of Maui Jims (Sport) and those are the best glasses I have ever worn , I do have a pair of Oak's and they are pretty good , I paid 180 for them and 130 for my Maui Jims and I like the MJ's better

These glasses do "LOOK" cool but ...

IMHO WileyX are the best sunglasses !!!

I have two pair of them and since they have impact lenses they double as shooting glasses.

My sentiments exactly. Why are Oakley sunglasses so expensive? Are they really "better" than something I can get for $3 at Dollar General? Or even something for $15 at any store like Wal-Mart (excluding Wal-Mart since they are evil)? I don't see why people are willing to pay $200, $150, EVEN $30 for sunglasses!!! Ok, maybe $30, but they would have to be damn nice, but even then I would hesistate! Have you guys been to the Oakley site recently? The prices are outrageous! You would have to be either a real sucker, a totally impractical materialist, or just rich (I'm not going into the qualities on that one). To be able to afford something like this. If you ask me, It's a joke. Then again, its because people buy these perfectly ordinary sunglasses at ridiculous prices that the companies that produce them survive in the first place, so I'm guessing that there are lot of people out there that buy this stuff. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong but it just seems absurd to me to buy something as simple as sunglasses at those prices.

I have a pair of Oakley's and i absolutely love them. Worth every single penny I paid for them. 15,000 pennies to be exact. The styling on the oakleys is better than I've seen on any cheap sunglasses, and the lenses really do make long days in the sun bearable. This is a must, b/c i work at a marina all day long in the sun. Anyone who says they are the same as $30 sunglasses is just.... i don't want to say. I believe that it takes 5 days of baking to make oakley lenses... not something you see with the usual plastic lenses.

I bought a pair of aquarius at Hershey Park when I was 11. Still have em and love em. They got scratched on a piece of rebar about five years ago, but I've yet to find a pair I like as well, so I still wear em. Luckily the scratch isn't noticeable unless I cross my eyes looking for it.

sorry, but no. Oakleys are not made from the same material as the $1 ones. The ones that you get at the gas station are plastic. You get what you pay for. If you want something that will snap like a twig (plastic $1 sunglasses) then by all means go for it. Me on the other hand, I dont like to see a seamline where metal was welded, plastic was mealted, or anything else. I want my sunglasses to be decent. Oakleys are made from anything from titanium to some carbonized steel. Go ahead and rant about things being expensive, but thats just the way it goes. Im looking forward to getting some nice T-wire or A-wire Oakleys. I love the way they look and they are amazingly light. The reason I am actually getting them is because I get a 40% discount on them. I always wanted em, but I never thought of spending my money when I diddnt have a job.

These are $100 at the local shop I have been paying $22 for them. I love them and have bought 2 pair for myself and had to get in 5 more for other people.

well, I had a pair of oaklies.

They were plastic.

Only difference is they came up with a cool name for plastic.

"High tinsle polymer support structure"

They snapped like a twig

I will never buy oaklies again.
