View Full Version : EDJUMACATE ME PLEASE!
Ive seen posts that some Athlon processors (old ones?) will not work with a 266mhz front side bus.
Do all the new Durons and Tbirds work with a board that supports 266mhz front side bus? If not, which ones do, and when did they start making them?
Thanks,
Sorry for the stupid question.

the old ones will work on a board that supports 266 (actually 133, amd runs at ddr on the fsb), it will just run at 200mhz bus speed by default, if you shelled out the bucks for a 266mhz compliant board, you would get way better performance by running a 266mhz chip on it! any asus or abit board will allow you to adjust the fsb multiplier, so it is a moot point as to which chip you have

Right, which is why I am asking, which chips are the 266mhz ones? I do have a board coming that supports it, so I want to make sure im not screwing up on the CPU purchase. When did the 266mhz chips come out?

OK DUH , I just answered my own question. Looks like the newer TBirds running at 1.1 up are availible with a 266 bus. Ouch, I didn't want to spend that much on a processor.

AKDUDE,
The 266mhz chips came out a couple weeks ago and are generally $10-$20 more than the 200 mhz bus chips. Does anyone know if these CPUs will work fine on an 8kta3? Thanks!
Here in my area the prize for a 266bus is excact the same as the 200
Big Air,
Should work fine in the 8kta3, as it is a KT133A chipset, and it does state in the specs its 266 mhz board.
