i dont have a bottle of compressed air in my house, but i do have a whole lot of swiffer clothes (the towels that uses a little static to pick up dust easily). is it safe to clean parts with these clothes? i dont think the static stuff is strong enough to short anything...

Even a little tiny tiny bit of static is enough to kill a part. I wouldn't even think about using something that uses static to clean.

According to the A+ book I used to study, you machine's parts run at 1.5 volts to 12 volts. You can feel a static charge at around 3,000 volts and see one at about 10,000 volts.

That means you can't even feel a charge that is strong enough to kill parts.

I wouldn't put one of those things in the same room with my machine but then I'm paranoid.:D
