Man am I an idiot or not?? I went to buy the 2400 chip, but the 2500 came with a HSF so I went for that but only 1.83 GHz should I go back and get the 2600 instead @ 2.1 GHz?? after work I'll return today so any info would be great. Thanks
:( :)

DO NOT RETURN THAT CHIP

It is a Barton core and as such has 256KB more L2 cache. Plus, the chances are you have a highly overclockable stepping that means your Barton will blow away any Thorougbred, which is what the 2600+ is. The reason for the lower clock speed is that AMD thinks the extra cache gives more performance so they give it a higher model number that the Tbred with the same clockspeed.

As for the mobo, if it's a A7N8X dlx Revision 2 then you are ok, it's the older revisions that have trouble getting to 200fsb.

Give us some codes - ones on the chip

What L337 M33P said.
That's a very popular chip around here, assuming you plan to overclock it.

L337 M33P>> Thanks for the advice, and I will take it.
BTW it is for sure a Rev. 2 on the Mobo. WooHoo.
I guess I will keep reading to see what my next step is to over clocking this baby.
Thanks also to Mustanley,Kram4sites you guys don't know how much help you provide to everyone.

Thanks Again.

yeah....keep the 2500+..It'll clock 2.0 - 2.2 GHz at stock voltage useing the retail HSF 90% of the time. Nice little chip.

My 2500+ is at 2.33GHz, absolutely 110% stable, on air cooling. I wish I had a later stepping though, as it seems most get to 2.5...

Yea the Xp2500+ is a great chip, had mine to 2300Mhz prime stable until i sold it 2 my brother (didnt try further). Are the newer versions of the chip more overclockable?? Have just got a Xp3000+ and am waiting until i can afford good cooling. Xp2500 is pretty cheap and if the newer ones are more overclockable i would consider gettin one for my second rig ??

No problemo - as long as you add the overclock to the CPU database :D
