Well it seems that I am gonna have to get a case before summer gets here..cause my sys laying on table being cooled by winter air coming in the window with huge window fan in it...hey I dont mind the cold...anyway Im heading to a computer show in Roanoak,Va. I plan to get a faster athlon and a case there..My question is, should I get a full size tower with dual power supply? cause the 300watt that I have doesnt have many cables to hook up devices and such..Im gonna get a plain cheap one..nothing fancy cause im gonna mod it and paint it..what would I expect to pay for this type anyway?

Im gonna be helping a friend build pcs for basicly just the internet and email...I put them together he puts windows on them and one of us delivers or teh customer picks it up....so I will have some mula..hehe

I've found that full towers are just too big. They don't fit well under desks and so on. The mid-towers work for me. The ATX ones even come with four 5 1/4" slots. I need a bunch because I like using those plastic drive trays for swapping hard drives.

You can get Y splitters for the power connectors for a buck or two at the fairs. I always have a few lying around.

I find that air flow in the mid-towers is fine, even for overclocking. Just try to keep the ribbon cables out of the way. I want round cables, but not for $20 each, which is what I've seen. I might try to round my own, since I have a bunch of spare IDE cables.

If size isn't an issue, go with a full tower. At most computer fairs you can usually find one for under $50.00. Unless you are getting into pelts, you really won't need a dual PSU.

After scouring a computer show In Raleigh Nc, looking for a case, I came home empty handed. Alot of the vendors had really crappy cases.

So I ordered this one
http://www.webuildpcs.com/cgi-bin/wbpcstore/CAS003.html

ITs a Full tower with 6 external 5 " bays and 3 3.5 bays.
300 watt power supply, with room to add a bunch of fans, or even a second power supply.
Also the motherboard tray slides out, like the Inwin Q500.

The Inwin Q500 is a really nice full size tower too, I think its got 5 ext bays, and is nice quality stuff. I would have bought it, but the cheapest I could find it was 90 bucks shipped. I could have bought it locally for 99 plus tax.

The one I got from www.webuildpcs.com was 62 $$ shipped, and I got it less than 4 days (including a weekend)

I personally use the Globalwin 802 mid tower.

It has the poewr supply away from the board so it does not restrict airflow off the cpu.

Every side comes appart including the face. All the mounts inside come appart and are held in with thumb screws, the motherboard tray slides completely out with all cards attached.

It keeps everything cool, it looks cool and it is very very easy to work on.

All rounded edges keeps my fingers safe also.

Hope this helps.

Who needs a case? I don't use a case - just a metal backing plate with everything strewn accros the desk most of the time!!!!

Seriously though - provided a case is well built, well laid out and has a good 300W power supply (such as a DEER), and also a side panel that is solely removable - you should have no porblems with it. I don't think its that much of a debate issue.

Too many people are foreer using stupid amounts of case fans and so forth when they have nothing really to cool besides a heatsink

When you have a peltier and/or heatexchanger - then the requirement for case planning becomes a must

ok thanks..as for the y spliters I may try them...but the thing is when i hook up some extra fans to my powersupply, my computer gives me the beep of death...u know "BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!" it does sometimes even when i dont have some extra fans hooked up....oh well i guess it wont hurt to try the Y spliters...if i dont get a case im just gonna get a faster athlon or if they have one... a GFD

Depending on how many fans your connecting you might be better of with a bigger power supply or a Digi Doc 5

Something like a nice 430 watt psu should do the trick (dual fan of course)

The Digi Doc 5 (pictured below) controls either thermal sensors and either fans, slots into your 5 1/4" bay with lovely LCD controls and readings. You can turn different fans on at certain temperatures and it even supports up to 120mm fans. There are quite expensive - depends on how many fans you want and how much control you want over them. In the states they retail for about $69.99 (I recommend Plycon (http://216.157.14.244/ddoc5.htm)) in the UK they go for about £49 (digi Doc 2 though) I recommend The Overclocking Store (http://www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk).

Hope this helps.
