My friend has a AMD k6-2 w/Sis 530 mother now...seeing as I'm new to the whole hardware thing. Is it possible to tear that thing out by the roots (with much malice) and slap a new mother and chip in there (like one of the ones from pricewatch.com) would there be problems of any sort? loose wires? jumpers? do i need to tell you the case? or do nearly all mothers fit in all cases?

thanks for helping this newbie (in hardware) out.

gracias...

It is still possible to get AT boards, but they really limit your choices. AT cases have to be modified to accomodate an ATX motherboard, mostly in terms of your PCI slots, and mounting. You are probably better off getting a regular ATX case.

problem being i don't have money to throw around.
the case is a midtower but the mother will have trouble fitting in and be kinda cramped? well....to be honest it's cramped now. had to move the fan a hair to fit the old S4 PCI video in. (it's gone now...replace by Voodoo 4)
but anyways...this deal from pricewatch.com

"M805LR, Micro ATX, 200/266 FSB, Socket A CPU, 2 PCI,4X AGP, Built-In 10/100 LAN & 3D Sound" wouldn't fit?

let me know...thanks a load
