Have been overclocking Duron for friends' systems several times, and all went without a flaw.

However, finally encounter a real headache today.

Purchased a Duron 700Mhz and an Epox 8KTA3(based on KT133A chipset). Use the normal pencil trick(I make sure that it is really 2B pencil). However, it simply won't work at all. The multiplier adjust control in BIOS is not working. Whenever I try to change the multiplier in BIOS and save the setting in BIOS, I would get a blank screen afterward---no POST, no nothing. Even the reset button won't work, and I have to disconnect the power wire on the back of my PC in order to get it down. Then turn on again, and back to 700MHz even though the BIOS is adjusted to 8x or 7.5x(anything besides 7 won't work).

Then I think that maybe I should try the Bus speed trick. There is a jumper set on the motherboard to allow 100Mhz or 133MHz. Set it to 133Mhz...still show as 100x7.

Can anybody give me any idea? I know how good Duron 700Mhz can go, but this one won't even do 7.5x100. I'll see if I can get a silver-conductive pen or soemthing...even though I don't think it'll help that much.

Could be a dodgy chip thats not allowing it to go up very far, or it could be a heat problem? How hot is it getting in there?

Other then that try flushing the bios and try again. Yo could even have a faulty board on that - try upgrading the bios with the latest revision and let me know how you get on.

Hope this helps.

Provided that cooling interfaces and equipment are not a problem - it may be useful to colour in the other 2 of the L7 bridges as well as the L1.

Try another pencil as well. Just being 2B doesn't cut the ice. They all have different chemical compositions as well as hardnesses. It's far to broad to say any 2B pencil will do it.

I have a 8KTA3 and can state that it is the most sweet overclocking sensation I have had ever with an unlocked chip and BIOS softmenus!!!

seems like your multipliers are still set to automatic...meaning they are still booting at defalt 7.0...try chaging it to manual...
