Hey guys,
I was going to get a Tbird 900 ($217) and a KT7A-Raid ($263). I decided that I didnt really need the RAID and will be getting a KT7A ($223).
I am currently using a V770 Tnt2 Ultra, so I decided to buy a nVidia Geforce 2 MX w/Tv out ($165)

So now I am thinking about getting a Duron 800 to recover the $100 I spent on the MX. I am on a VERY tight budget.

I decided a D800 +MX would be better for games then a T900+ultra.

Now, since I will be overclocking these to the max, which one should I get, remember I only have a MX card. The 800 should get ~ 1000Mhz and the 900 should get ~ 1050Mhz correct? I will be using either a FOP32-1 or simular.

I'm also ordering a Enermax 330W PS. Current case cooling is: 80mm intake in front + slotcooler + 92mm in the PS. When I get some more money, I will be ordering (2) 92mm exhaust fans (rear and top blow holes) as well as a 120mm intake in the side, blowing on the MB. Eventually I want them all hooked up to a Baybus, or maybe a DigiDoc :-)

I really don't want to spend the extra cash on a CPU, but I plan on keeping this current system for at least 18months, so If you guys say the 900 is the way to go, I'll get the 900. If my VideoCard is being maxed out by the 800, there is no point really in getting the 900.

In fact with such a weak VideoCard maybe overclocking won't be worth the returns? hmm

Please reply with your opinions...

Thanks,

-Bartman

Used to have:
Celeron 566@952Mhz w/1.55V!
Broke in school bag on trip home, was I ever mad! Best 566 I ever saw!
Worked flawless. Pissed me of so much, I'm going AMD <g>

["I refuse to pay for a Celeron twice!"]

Your Price for the TBIRD is a bit high, These guys have it for 121 US http://www.upgradeplanet.com/

Remember, a Tbird at the same speed as a duron is still faster, because of the full speed cache it has.

If you have 200 bucks to blow, id get a 1.2 Tbird, look over at www.pricewatch.com , there are a few there at that price.

- duron's cache is also 'full speed'.. there's just less of it.

bartman, if you're looking to keep the system for that long, then put in the bit extra and get the tbird. it is a faster chip, no doubt about it. nice choice of mobo, btw.

I just ordered a 650 T-bird for the challenge of seeing how far it will go. My 600 Duron does 1000 solid, so I'm off to a new challenge. Did i mention the 650 T-bird goes for $59.00 (US) plus shipping. Overclocking, when treated as a technical hobby, is about seeing how far you can take how little (read cheap). It should be here next week and I will certainly report my results.

A T-Bird performs about 150 MHz faster than a Duron (Duron @ 800 = T-Bird @ 650). Why are you comparing a faster T-Bird to a slower Duron? Get a T-Bird 750 or 800 ir you're on a budget. I got one for a system I build my daughter, and here's some details:

T-Bird 800 @ 800 MHz
MSI K7T Lite
Hercules 3D Prophet DDR-DVI @ 160/360
128 MB Crucial CAS2 PC133 @ 133 MHz
3DMark2000 - 6141

The Duron absolutely does not make sense if you are planning to play games. But why the Tbird 900? Get a Tbird 750, it's cheaper and it also should overclock fairly well.
